So. I moved everything over from LJ, for both my main journal and my [personal profile] tabbys_fics, although I think I'm a little late to the game. But it's done now! Now, to try and figure out how Dreamwidth and rebuild my friends list, I guess?

I'm trying to get back into writing, and I'm not sure about posting to tumblr, so I'm just going to throw my ramblings here and maybe someone will see them. Read more... )

Substituting names in romance novel summaries with fandom pairings: GenKill Edition

Look But Don't Touch: Photographer Ray Person has no problem admitting he has a weakness for half-naked men. After all, he's gained national recognition for his men's underwear ads. Still, he's always very careful not to let any man get too close - until he has a fateful run-in with Texas Ranger Brad Colbert. And then he can't get him out of his clothes fast enough... Brad Colbert is a loner - and likes it that way. Only, since he shared a one-night stand with a sexy stranger, he's been out of sorts, suddenly wanting more. So when he learns he's getting a new assignment - to serve as a bodyguard to powerful businessman's new photographer - he's relieved. Until he realizes that the body he'll be guarding is the one that shared his bed.

Guilty Pleasures: Nate Fick has to get his act together - otherwise his backstreet restaurant will quickly become a been-there, done-that kind of thing. He risked everything to create his place, Guilty Pleasures, and he's willing to risk everything all over again just to save it. He doesn't have a plan but he does have Ray. Ray Person is a supersexy chef looking for a second chance. His once-four-star reputation is now no-star, thanks to a longtime rival. When Ray shows up on Nate's doorstep, he knows it means trouble, and not just for the restaurant. Soon he's not only sampling Ray's delectable dishes, he's sampling the chef himself. Together they cook up a sinful menu that garners many new patrons, but when opportunity knocks on Ray's door, with high-class offers, he must decide, as will Nate, what and who they truly desire.

Early Harvest: Nate Fick is spending his summer helping his students turn a trash-filled inner-city lot into a lush garden. There's only one problem - he and the children have to pack up their shovels and watering cans by fall because Brad Colbert, the handsome and ambitious owner of the lot, wants to turn it into a parking garage. Unless Nate can change his mind.

Love, Me: He was everyone's wildest desire, and where had that gotten rock music's bad boy, Ray Person? A career on the skids and a big blank zero in the romance score. But if he hooked sexy songwriter Walt Hasser, he'd at least have a fighting chance at having it all - a handsome hunk of man and a hit song. Now all he had to do was convince the elusive Mr Hasser that he could fulfill his wildest desires and more.

Bachelor of the Month: Sexy stockbroker Brad Colbert loves being in love. Unfortunately, in the past, he's been quick to propose that he's ended up leaving five brides at the altar. But now, through Texas Man Magazine, he's met gorgeous Ray Person, a man he wants to keep in his life - and his bed - permanently. He knows Ray's "the one." Too bad Ray has no intention of becoming Matrimonial Victim #6.

One week from now, we'll be sitting in the ridiculously hot civic center being bored by graduation speeches. Also, I'm totally gonna cry. I can't believe my teenagers are graduating!! (Well, Hallie is technically already graduated since she was homeschooled, and Chrissy graduates on Friday b/c she's at a different school, but Harley and Johnathan and Jamie graduate next week.) That wasn't the point of this entry though.

I'm not really identifying with a particular fandom these days, which is kinda weird. I mean, I still belong to fandom as a whole, and I've got my fingers in various fandom pies, lol, but I don't have a primary fandom right now.

I'm in the slow process of moving all my fics over to a fic journal. Rereading some of them makes me want to delete everything I ever wrote, haha, but some of them surprise me that I actually LIKE them. Apparently I'm not as bad as I thought?

I have a mostly written fics on my laptop for Being Human (the US version), Shameless (also the US version), and Jesse/Andrew (yes, the kitten!fic). I also have fic that I'm not writing for a fandom I'm not in, lol. Looking at the tabs that I have open on firefox right now, there's a bbb, an old SPN fic, several GK fics, one of my own GK fics, a couple fast&furious fics, and a couple original fics. Oh, and instructions on making a diaper cake. Amy's baby shower is Saturday.

Also, this time last year, I had just returned from Texas and [livejournal.com profile] asimplechord had made me start watching GK, so I had to get links for the rest of GK. Technically that makes this my anniversary of GK-do, I guess? So my plans for this evening involve rewatching GK and pretending that the Real World doesn't exist right now.

Love yall!

Some times Ray suggests that Walt should audition for “Twinklight” - pretty much without fail he gets punched for it, which is like domestic abuse or some shit. (Vampire!AU)

And we all saw this video of Misha and Jensen, right? I HAVE NO WORDS! omg, Misha Collins. (also, thank you to [livejournal.com profile] wordsalone for bringing this to my attention!)

Oh, god, EMPIRES. Seriously, everytime I hear a concert recap (or an encounter recap, lol), I fall more and more in love with these failboats. Please please please vote for them. Voting for this round of Choose the Cover goes through April 14th. EMPIRES!!!

One of my friends is in the THE MISS FIERCE ENUFF 2011 COMPETITION on India Ferrah's site and is one of the Top 25 Fiercest Finalists. If you go to this site and click "VOTE NOW", he's contestant # 87 Anastasia Paige (and there are videos from all 25 finalists, to be fair, if you wanna watch and vote for your favorite, lol). Voting is allowed once a day and goes through the end of the month.

Success! Lol, minor success anyway. I finished something! But it's nonsense, so it really doesn't count, but whatever. I sent it to [livejournal.com profile] asimplechord anyway.

Also, in my head, Ray Person is like the Pete Wentz of GK fandom. Pete, for me, was always the one responsible for everything, always in the middle of everything, and even if you never intended for him to be in your story, he usually managed to make an appearance. (Or take over. Basement Romantic, anyone? Seriously, Pete wasn't even supposed to be part of that story, and look how that turned out.) And he suffers from Peter Pan syndrome and seems to never actually grow up. Or shut up. And he's ridiculously endearing anyway.

And I have this ridiculous AU world in my head (go figure) and it's got like all these stupid little parts that I don't know that'll ever actually get tied together, especially since I'm being distracted by the shiny of other fandoms and dealing with this headache/bipolar nonsense, but I figured I'd go ahead and post the first part here. [livejournal.com profile] asimplechord and [livejournal.com profile] swear_jar have already seen it, but I'm not sure if/when I'll actually write more on it that's shareable. So.

Untitled - I think we keep calling it the prostitute!Walt AU.

Eventually, the Corps gave Ray Bravo. He loved them, in his own fucked up way, except when he didn't. Like right now. )

ProjectMMH.org is a website that serves as a resource for information about the Meet Me Halfway project and the issue of foster youth who "age out" of the foster care system and face serious life problems such as homelessness and poverty. ProjectMMH.org also organizes the Meet Me Halfway Street Teams, a national network of volunteers who work in local communities to raise awareness of Project Meet Me Halfway. Currently, Jimmy Wayne and Project Meet Me Halfway are exploring the idea of building a facility for aged-out foster youth and homeless youth. The project is only in the conceptual stage now, but many volunteers with many different skills will be needed. Would you be willing to share your skills to help build a youth facility? Still being super unproductive. Did have a good day on Saturday at Martinsville, despite the headaches and the fact it was super cold and windy and the Bass Pro team didn't win. With the storm rolling in today and that-time-of-the-month also rolling in, my headache last night and today has been epic. Also, my dad and I finished the bedroom downstairs last week, and even though it was decided that Tim would take that room until he found a new place of his own, he didn't go get his bed this weekend like he planned on, so I'm still stuck trying to be polite and not keep the TV/light/my laptop on at night since he has to be up at the crack of dawn for work and we're sharing the living room. Dammit.

In happier news, or the real reason for this post, is that the stories for the Spring Fling Exchange at [livejournal.com profile] we_pimpin were posted yesterday. I probably should have rationed them out, but really, what better way to spend a Sunday recovering from an exhausting day of sun and socializing than by overdosing on Ray-fic? Here's the link to the Master Post but here are my favorites: (no authors, obviously, because author reveal isn't until next week)

[livejournal.com profile] swear_jar POSTED FIC!

I am super sleepy and grumpy about the dreary day and about the lack of post-Oscar afterparty conciliatory Andrew/Jesse sex fic, but I will read Jess!fic and watch Castle and my night will be good. :)

So, yall should go read this awesome GK AU (that I have been waiting on for weeks) and leave Jess some love. Or at least a "hey, I liked this" comment.

The Gentle Art of Making Enemies: Cigarettes by [livejournal.com profile] swear_jar
GK || Rated R || Brad/Ray || 28K || warning for violence
Assassin!AU. This is a continuation of the gentle art of making enemies, which is a wee short prologue that is very much need to read for some of this to make sense.

So, um, fic? (I am totally gonna post this and then HIDE, lol.)

This was kinda sorta for [livejournal.com profile] swear_jar's birthday, but it's a little late. But I finished it!

Now I'm Ready (To Feel Your Hand)
Generation Kill || Brad/Ray/Walt || Rated Adult || ~4100 words

Disclaimer: I don't own the characters; don't know the real life people; this is a work of fiction based on portrayals of actors and meant to imply nothing about any real people.

Summary: Ray-in-a-collar fic. Shamelessly self-indulgent porn, combination of what happens when Ray wears his collar out in public and stories get back to Brad and Walt, and Brad and Walt trying to get Ray to break the "kissing is against the rules" bullshit he started in Iraq.

A/N: Part of the fucked up Ray 'verse that lives in my head. Encouraged shamelessly by [livejournal.com profile] swear_jar, so I blame her. Written in bits and pieces on my blackberry. Beta'd by the always-awesome [livejournal.com profile] asimplechord. Much thanks to the two of them as well as [livejournal.com profile] ltlredhairdgirl and [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane for cheerleading. Title comes from The Stooges' I Wanna Be Your Dog. Any remaining mistakes are mine; feel free to point them out.

Ray thinks the collar is a joke, a gag gift of sorts, but once he realizes it's not, he wants to wear it everywhere. )
why_me_why_not: (Default)
Okay, so I have three fics in progress (one for [livejournal.com profile] irisgirl12000 about Baby Belle, since I never sent it to her last week and is technically just a snippet); one for [livejournal.com profile] swear_jar, which I'm going to pretend is her birthday present so as to explain the delay in finishing it; and one for [livejournal.com profile] jackiesjunkie) and a post I wanted to make about my weekend. And I have a shiny new laptop!! I also have a headache, but no one will be surprised to hear that.

Instead of all those things, though, right now I'm going to talk about helping your fellow LJ-ers and also throw out a couple fic recs!

I am selfish enough to put a link to my own stuff first, so if you haven't had a chance to check out my Relay for Life post, please do so. :)

[livejournal.com profile] apiphile has a post here where she is offering words for donations made to [livejournal.com profile] soda_and_capes or [livejournal.com profile] myselftheliar. For details and/or information about what they need donations for, check that post.

[livejournal.com profile] danacias brought this Groupon deal to my attention, and the offer runs through midnight EST tonight, so I'm going to steal part of the post she made about this.

If you're reading this, there is a good chance you know - or know of - [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane. More specifically, you may know that she teaches at a public school in New York, and that she encourages her students to participate in the book club she runs. Approximately 25 kids are currently signed up, but very few of them can afford to buy the books they collectively decide to read, and the public libraries usually only carry a few copies of a given book, so most of the books the students read are purchased by [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane or by flisters who are able to pitch in for books.

If you've got $10 available for the book club, the current NYC Super Groupon from Barnes & Noble would actually give the class $20 worth of books. So if their next book is $9.99 each, they could buy two books with one Groupon. So, you know, if you can spare $10 for a Groupon for her class, it would be wildly appreciated. By me, by her, by the kids in the book club. If not, no worries. Really.

Again, here is the link for the current Super Groupon from Barnes & Noble. Basically, you buy the groupon and forward the email confirmation or just the coupon code to [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane. (of course, if you want to use this groupon for yourself, it's a good deal any way you go)

Background: [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane teaches high school students (9th - 12th grade) but uses 6th grade textbooks because so few of her students enter her class able to read at proper grade level. She commits a lot of time and effort into creating lesson plans that will motivate her students to do part of their assigned homework, so the fact that she has kids reading harder material in their free time because of her encouragement is kind of amazing.

Now, fic recs:

A Steady Diet of Sodapop and Ritalin by [livejournal.com profile] jmc_bks
GK Brad/Ray AU, ~4400 words
Summary: Brad likes elevator music and musical theater; Ray decides he must be schooled in real music.
I adore this whole AU that J has created, and I am so glad that she is writing fic and sharing it. I love her Brad and Ray - and the mention of Gabe Saporta - and I know she is staying a little under the radar, so I'm hoping that some of you will go read this and leave her some encouraging comments. I promise you'll like it.

The Curious Case Of The Firecrotch: This Is Why We Don't Write Our Memoirs While Drunk, Ben. by [livejournal.com profile] stratospherique and [livejournal.com profile] apiphile
A Fail Noir Adventure
Rated Not Appropriate For All Audiences for swearing, drunken pillow fucking, scandalous histories, and detailed erotic encounters of the homosexual persuasion.
Approximately 22,000 words in length
okay, so I may have had a reaction of a high pitched squee and hand clapping when I saw this. I haven't even started reading yet, but I am so excited to see new fic from these two - I love it when they write together. (not to say I don't love their individual writing as well) I plan on spending my evening curled up with my shiny new laptop reading this.

Okay, I'm going to try to take something else for my headache because I have to start some laundry and stuff before I go pick the boys up from karate. <3
why_me_why_not: (Default)
Why won't someone write me GK fic where the boys get tasked with the mission of meeting up with a group of military scientists and escorting them home, only to end up having to battle whatever creatures the scientists have been doing genetic experiments on?

Yes I am spending my Saturday watching SyFy movies again; why would you ask?

The boys played an awesome game this morning; our team won 12 to 4. The hard part was that we were playing against one of the other North Salem teams, so half the opposing team played with our team last year for basketball and/or soccer. There was a lot more rough play, since these guys are all friends, and our littlest player fouled out. And three members of the opposing team got injured. Still, both teams played well and it was a good game and all the parents (several of the parents are teachers) were cheering for both teams, so it was good.

We're going to Kabuki tonight to celebrate Mom's birthday (which was yesterday) and I'm debating whether or not to go into work tomorrow.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

My life is full of bad influences right now. *eyes [livejournal.com profile] irisgirl12000 and [livejournal.com profile] swear_jar* But apparently I can no longer say that I don't write Generation Kill fic. (yeah, yeah, I know that I've posted fic, like the Baby Belle story and stuff I co-wrote, but they don't count) Anyway, way back in the summer, I accidentally wrote fic and emailed it to a few people, but it sat in my gmail since then, until [livejournal.com profile] swear_jar and I were talking the other day and I shared it with her and she said I should post it.

Which means coming up with a title and summary. Tartar sauce! Um... let me think. (by which I mean, let me go bug [livejournal.com profile] irisgirl12000 to make up a title and summary for me when she reads over this.)

uh, well, apparently she hates titles and summaries as much as I do. Just read the fic, okay? *g*

Became Friends As We Learned How To Fight
GK || Ray, Walt, little bit of Brad and Nate || Teen || ~3500 words

Summary: Ray doesn't adjust easily to civilian life.

Disclaimer: I am completely full of shit; I come from a family of liars and proudly carry on that tradition. Uh, this is a work of fiction based on portrayals of actors and meant to imply nothing about any real people.

A/N: Yeah, idek. I wanted fic and couldn't find it and accidentally wrote it myself? I blame [livejournal.com profile] irisgirl12000 for taking advantage of the fact I was laying on her couch and suffering from COL and a concussion. She made me watch GK, yall, knowing I would get hooked. Apparently it was payback for bandom. A few other people saw this in email, but I never actually posted it because I'm me. So you can blame [livejournal.com profile] swear_jar for me actually posting it. And blame me for any mistakes and inaccuracies. It was betad (by [livejournal.com profile] irisgirl12000, whose name you're probably tired of seeing and who just changed her lj name and if I was typing the new name in this post instead of the old name, I'd remember what it was by now!) and she probably told me to fix things and I didn't. Title comes from Rise Against's Hero of War.

The dreams are worse than actually living through the shit, Ray thinks, snagging himself another beer from the fridge and wondering if it was maybe a good thing that he had been living on a diet of Ripped Fuel, instant coffee, and adrenaline while they were in Iraq. )

Merry Christmas! Hope everyone who was celebrating had a wonderful day, and stayed warm, and didn't get arrested for the murder (or attempted murder) of family members! For those of you who weren't celebrating Christmas, I hope you're having an excellent weekend!

Here in the mountains, the stupid snow won't stop fucking falling, even though the predictions were for a light dusting. Ha. There were a good four or five inches on the ground when I got home earlier, and that was hours ago. And if you saw my tweet about my brother wrecking his truck, you'll be happy to know that Drewber is okay. A little banged up, but perfectly capable of celebrating his 21st birthday on Monday with no ill effects. His truck, on the other hand, is totalled, which is unsurprising since he rolled it down an embankment.

Stupid snow, seriously.

Also, if you txtd me holiday wishes and I didn't respond, it's because I DON'T KNOW WHO THE FUCK YOU ARE!

I'm still getting used to my new phone, but I have figured out how to email long, rambly bits of crack fic to [livejournal.com profile] irisgirl12000, how to look at the pics of PJ Ransone on [livejournal.com profile] swear_jar's tumblr, how to read fic, and (hopefully) how to post to LJ.

So, on the subject of fic. [livejournal.com profile] yagkyas! I have to say that the fic that was written for [livejournal.com profile] irisgirl12000 (one foot in front of the other) has already earned a spot in my heart as one of my all-time favorite things. It's hs au, which I'm sure yall are surprised to hear I love, and is just too awesome for words. Also, the fic that was gifted to [livejournal.com profile] thebunnyknows (It’s Not Love At First Sight (Because This Isn’t a Country Song)) has excellent Ray!voice.

For an actual fic rec, though, for all of you who get to enjoy your Sunday lazing around the house and playing on the internet (unlike myself, who has to work twelve fucking hours), I present you with links to fic built on the current pairing of my heart.

The best thing about this pairing and these fics is that you can read them and appreciate the awesomeness without having to be in GK fandom or have a background knowledge of GK canon.

These are both written by [livejournal.com profile] marycontraire, who is evil in that awesome way where she has me wanting a million more words of Stafford/Christenson, and I may make ridiculous noises of glee when I see her name come up on new fic posts.

I'll give you the porn link first.

cocked, ready to let it go
I'm sure that yall are shocked to find out that biting is my bulletproof kink, right? No? Oh well. GO READ THIS AND ENJOY THE YUMMY BITING SEX!

And the actual, 11K+ story that yall should read, whether you're in the fandom or not: tear down the house that i grew up in (i'll never be the same again)

Yall go read and leave some love for [livejournal.com profile] marycontraire, okay? And enjoy your Sundays for me!

I need a DVR. I wanna know what's going on with Grace & Rigsby! I don't particularly care about the rest of what's going on on The Mentalist. Also, with CSI:NY coming on at the same time as Supernatural, I haven't seen any of it. I don't even know when I started watching that show!

Oh Psych. I love Shawn's dad. :) This show has a special place in my heart. Hopefully I can stay awake for all of it.

There was a point behind this post, but I can't remember what it is. Oops?

Um, I found this on my phone. Can one of you tell me what it was part of / where it was going / why I was writing it? (ficishness of the GK variety)

So, my workplace is like a never-ending cycle of stupid. Luckily, [livejournal.com profile] irisgirl12000 sent me emails today of the GK Lady & the Tramp AU variety, and work!Heather came by work to see me even though it was her day off, and my current music mix (including [livejournal.com profile] ihavecake!) makes me very very happy.

Tomorrow is my Friday, and I am planning on doing nothing on Thursday but hanging at the house with the baby. I'm going to a concert Friday night (Carrie Underwood and Billy Currington) and then on Saturday I have to help my cousin move, and we're meeting the work crew at the Homeplace for dinner (omg YUM). Fun times.

Today is 11 years since Kelly Marie passed away, and I am amazed by how many people took the time today to say something to me about it, and my brother's "things I'm thankful for" post on facebook today was about angels b/c of the baby.

Okay, I'm gonna go steal a controller from the boys and play Black Ops with my baby brother for a while, so he can make fun of me b/c I don't play games! I don't even know how the controller works!

A/N: There is so much more of this, in my head and in my email and on my phone. It's pretty ridiculous. But it was just asking to be written!! Beta'd by [livejournal.com profile] irisgirl12000, as always.

Brad doesn’t know where Ray is, doesn’t know exactly what caused him to go to ground, hiding from everyone. He’s not worried about it, either. )

I know that no one (including myself) believed it when I said I wasn't going to write GK fic. But I didn't think that this would be the first thing I would post.

Bedtime Stories
Generation Kill || Ray/Walt/Brad || Adult || 2577 words
Summary: Ray knows the difference between someone not hearing him and someone ignoring him. Walt has been ignoring him for days, and Ray's tired of it. Luckily, Ray has a plan to fix it.

Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction based on the portrayal of characters in Generation Kill, and is meant to imply nothing about the real people who bear these names.

A/N: Idek. I am not sure where this came from, and I'm nervous about posting it as my first GK fic. GK fandom is kinda intimidating. [livejournal.com profile] irisgirl12000 did a quick beta on this for me (also, she tells the best bedtime stories and she's my favoritest ever) so any mistakes are mine. There's an awful lot of talking in this, but it's Ray, so whatever.

It took Ray for-fucking-ever to set this shit up, and Walt had better appreciate it. )
