When It All Comes Down
Bandom || MCR, FOB, PATD, TheCab || Teen || 1317 words
Disclaimer: completely untrue, full of falsehoods and lies, no harm intended
Warning: mentions of character death
Summary: There’s a lot of confusion about what was going on. The only thing certain is that people died.
A/N: unbetad. will possibly be continued at a later date, but for now this is all I have so it has to be dumped. I also bent canon quite a bit to make this happen the way I wanted; I know it's factually incorrect.
Lindsey pulls the blanket closer around herself and glances at the clock again. It’s creeping up on 4am and the other side of the bed is still cold and empty. She tries to tell herself that she isn’t worried. Gerard’s in the studio with his guys, and she knows they’re wrapping things up on the new album. She doesn’t expect to see him for another few days and isn’t at all surprised when calling his cell sends her straight to voicemail.
But the street outside their apartment is far too quiet, even for the late hour, and the night sky is tinted with a strange shade of green around the edges of the city. Above all, Lindsey can feel in her gut that something’s off.
In the end, she stares at the ceiling until the sun starts to come up, then rolls out of bed and heads to the kitchen. The coffee pot isn’t even full when Alicia calls.
“Hey, I know this is silly, blame it on the baby or hormones or whatever, but I'm feeling lonely and I'd really like it if you came over."
Lindsey doesn’t have to think about it, just throws on some clothes, dumps her coffee into a carry mug, and drives over to Alicia and Mikey’s. Jamia, Krista, and Bauer pull up the same time she does. She spends most of the day finishing the nursery, with Jamia’s help, while Alicia and Krista supervise Bauer and the dogs in the backyard. Alicia had wanted to help, but Lindsey glared at her until she agreed to stay away from the paint fumes. Lindsey knew that it had to be frustrating, that Alicia had so many restrictions forced on her by being pregnant, but she fully expected payback when it was her turn, so she didn’t feel too bad about protecting Alicia from what she could.
Brian calls Jamia late in the afternoon and says the boys are almost done; they should be home the next day. The wives decide that one last girls’ night is in order, because it’s really hard to scheme when their husbands are around, what with keeping them out of trouble and the fact they don’t seem to understand the obsessive desire the girls have to find Bob someone worthy of settling down with.
Pete Wentz and his band of losers (okay, so that's totally a term of affection, because Lindsey loves them, especially Patrick, but Pete really is kind of a loser) are on passing through on tour, and he invites Alicia to come by the venue, which is how Alicia and Lynz and Jamia and Krista end up at a Fall Out Boy concert. Only they don't actually get to see Fall Out Boy perform because Panic at the Disco is on stage when it happens.
***** ***** ***** ***** *****
The midmorning sun is almost too-bright when they stumble out of the studio, carried high on the adrenaline and excitement of finally being finished and getting to go home to their wives.
Frank glances at his watch. “Mikey, Gee, you two are so gonna be in the doghouse when you get home.”
Ray throws an arm over Frank’s shoulder. “Why are you giving them shit when you and I are in just as much trouble?”
Frank grins. “I have to give them shit, it’s my job.” He doesn’t say mention that it’s also likely to cheer up the newly-single-again Bob, but they all know that’s part of it.
They pile in to Mikey's minivan – the baby’s not even here yet and he's already turning into a fucking soccer mom; he even makes them all buckle their belts before he starts the car – and the planned trip to Denny's is vetoed when they can't get in touch with Lindsey, Alicia, Jamia, or Krista. They should probably find it strange that none of their phones have service, but it’s happened to them before. They finally notice that the streets are pretty empty and the people they do pass look strange, their expressions a mixture of shock and utter fear, and there are people lying dead in the streets.
Frank's house is closest and so they head there first, but all they find is the kitchen window busted out, the dogs gone, and no Jamia. They go by Mikey's next and find Bunny hissing at them from atop the fridge and bloodstains on the front steps and Mikey maybe freaks out a little bit.
Ray maybe does too, herding them back into the van and speeding toward his house (because his wife and kid are there, okay, and if his bandmates’ wives and pets are missing, he needs to hold his little boy, like right now) but when they pass the venue where Fall Out Bpy had been playing, Mikey grabs his arm, all "stop stop stop!", and is out of the car while it's still rolling, running towards the tour buses and yelling for Pete.
The first bus he comes to isn't one of the Fall Out Boy buses, but he bangs on the door anyway, moving on to the next bus when he gets no answer. Frank, Bob, and Matt catch up with him at the second bus, and Gerard and Ray aren’t far behind.
The third bus they come to, they're greeted by Panic’s bodyguard and a tire iron that has suspicious looking stains on it. The MCR boys stumble back from the door, holding on to one another for support. Zack gives them a quick, decisive once-over and herds them onto the bus.
The first thing Mikey sees is Pete and Alicia huddled together on the couch, and he's too busy hugging them to pay much attention to the explanations going on around him.
There’s a lot of confusion about what's going on. The only thing certain is that people died. There are conflicting reports about what exactly was responsible, because at first it looked like dark blobs slipping through the crowd, but then some girl in the crowd screamed “Zombies!” and the shadows seemed to congeal into classic horror-movie zombies, devouring everyone and everything in sight.
Mikey doesn’t want to believe it, can’t believe it because seriously, what the fuck? He looks around the crowded bus lounge, though, and it starts to sink in. He knows these guys, Pete’s extended family, an none of them seem to be thinking this is a joke.
Brendon’s in the corner, fiddling with the camera in his lap and shifting away whenever anyone tries to touch him. He hasn’t said a word since the MCR guys got there, which is kinda freaky because they’ve all met Brendon, but Mikey remembers he has his friend/roommate on tour with them to do photography, and said friend/roommate is definitely not in the room. Beside Brendon are the guitarist and keyboardist for The Cab. Mikey can’t remember their names, but when he looks in their direction, Joe leans over from where he’s sitting on the other side of Pete and whispers, “Ian and Marshall. The others were at the merch table when It happened.”
Ryan and Spencer are practically in each other’s laps on the floor, talking to Jon, who is insisting that they need to get out of New Jersey, at least, and preferably head to Chicago.
Pete looks up when he hears Jon mention Chicago. “Yes. Chicago, yes.” He looks at Mikey. “Ashlee and the baby are home alone; I have to know that they’re okay.” Mikey reaches for his hand and squeezes; he knows.
Thinking about Pete’s wife makes Mikey realize – belatedly – that the other wives are missing. “Lyn?” he asks softly.
“Krista went to get the baby; he was at her parent’s house,” Alicia answers, just as quietly. “Jamia and Lyn went with her. Andy and Patrick too.”
Mikey nods, pulls Alicia and Pete closer to him, and turns to Gerard. “So, Gee, what now?”
