Instructions:
List five songs that you are currently digging ... it doesn't matter what genre they are from, whether they have words, or even if they're any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying right now. Post these instructions, the artist, and the song in your blog along with your five songs. Then tag five other people to see what they're listening to.

My 5 songs, in no particular order, and mostly for no particular reason. I'll even include the lyrics. (and they're all country this time, though I generally listen to a wide mix of music)

# 1. Because this song just reminds me of my life, and is one of my all-time favorites. And this is my #1 choice of song to sing at karaoke.

I'm Moving On by Rascal Flatts

I've dealt with my ghosts and I've faced all my demons
Finally content with a past I regret
I've found you find strength in your moments of weakness
For once I'm at peace with myself
I've been burdened with blame, trapped in the past for too long
I'm movin' on

I've lived in this place and I know all the faces
Each one is different but they're always the same
They mean me no harm but it's time that I face it
They'll never allow me to change
But I never dreamed home would end up where I don't belong
I'm movin' on

I'm movin' on
At last I can see life has been patiently waiting for me
And I know there's no guarantees, but I'm not alone
There comes a time in everyone's life
When all you can see are the years passing by
And I have made up my mind that those days are gone

I sold what I could and packed what I couldn't
Stopped to fill up on my way out of town
I've loved like I should but lived like I shouldn't
I had to lose everything to find out
Maybe forgiveness will find me somewhere down this road
I'm movin' on

I'm movin' on
I'm movin' on

# 2. I stumbled onto this song on an old mix CD of mine and remembered how much I love it.

Long Lost Friend by Restless Heart

Once upon a long ago
Someone touched my heart and soul, my life
You and I were meant to be
Was I just to blind to see the light in your eyes

(CHORUS)
Long, lost friend
So good finding you again
I curse the fool I've been for drifting away from you
Though I lost my way
You've been strong enough to stay
Faithful to the end
Long, lost friend

Seasons change and people too
I'm so glad that I had you out there
Through the rise and through the fall
Even when I'd lost it all
You cared like no one else

(REPEAT CHORUS)

Though I lost my way,
You've been strong enough to stay
Faithful to the end
Long, lost friend
So, good finding you again
I'll be faithful to the end
Long, lost friend

# 3. this song makes think of certain people I've lost, even if they weren't all in the same river.

The River by Chely Wright

On a Friday night where I grew up
There ain't a whole lot you can do
The same ole' faces the same ole' places
Ain't nothin' ever new
After the football game we'd hang around
The high school parking lot
Then we'd pile into a couple of cars
And head off to our favorite spot

Down to the river
We went to the river

My Sophomore year was a carbon copy
Of the ones that came before
'Til a night in late November
That shook us all down to the core

We'd won the game by twenty points
Couldn't wait to celebrate
But our lead car was goin' way too fast
They never even hit the breaks
They went into the river
Deep in the river

We buried Laurie Mabrey
In the clothes that she'd been wearin'
Her cheerleader outfit never looked
So out of place

That sweater and that pleated skirt
Of blue and white and crimson
Just didn't belong in that shiny silver case

I moved here to Nashville
On May 12th '89
And I started gettin' letters once a week
From this friend of mine

I'd gone to school with Christine Thuro
From kindergarten on
She'd say hang in there 'cause
I just know you're gonna be a star
She and her boyfriend and a couple of kids
I guess she met through him
Set out for the Marais Des Cygne
To try to cool off by takin' a swim

There'd been a lot of rain that summer
And the current was too strong
I heard that they did all they could
But Christine she was gone

Into the river
She died there in the river

I was baptized in that same water
Gave my soul to Jesus
How can such a peaceful place
Be filled with so much pain

'Cause two young mothers lost their daughters
Right there for no reason
I swear I'll never go down there again

Back to the river
That mean ole' river
That beautiful river
That damn ole' river
That damn ole' river

# 4. Love Brad Paisley, love this song. Not sad. Unless it's an indicator of how much I drink.

Alcohol by Brad Paisley
I can make anybody pretty.
I can make you believe any lie.
I can make you pick a fight with somebody twice your size.
Well, I’ve been known to cause a few break-ups,
An' I’ve been known to cause a few births.
Well, I can make you new friends, or get you fired from work.

And since the day I left Milwaukee,
Lynchburg an' Bordeaux, France,
Been making the bars lots of big money,
An' helpin' white people dance.
I got you in trouble in High School,
But College, now that was a ball.
You had some of the best times you’ll never remember with me:
Alcohol; Alcohol.

I got blamed at your wedding reception,
For your best man’s embarrassing speech.
And also for those naked pictures of you at the beach.
I’ve influenced Kings and world leaders,
I helped Hemingway write like he did.
And I’ll bet you a drink or two, that I can make you put that lampshade on your head.

‘Cause since the day I left Milwaukee,
Lynchburg and Bordeaux, France,
I been making a fool out of folks just like you,
An' helping white people dance.
I am medicine and I am poison,
I can help you up or make you fall.
You had some of the best times you’ll never remember with me:
Alcohol.

Yeah, since the day I left Milwaukee,
Lynchburg an' Bordeaux, France,
Been making the bars lots of big money,
(Helpin' white people dance.)
Yeah, I got you in trouble in High School,
But College, now that was a ball.
You had some of the best times you’ll never remember with me:
Alcohol; Alcohol.

# 5. And b/c this is my current view on life. There's gotta be something more. And this was the song I was singing when I quit my job.

Something More by Sugarland
Monday, hard to wake up
Fill my coffee cup, I'm out the door
Yeah, the freeway's standing still today
It's gonna make me late, and thats for sure
I'm running out of gas and out of time
Never gonna make it there by nine

[Chorus:]
There's gotta be something more
Gotta be more than this
I need a little less hard time
I need a little more bliss
I'm gonna take my chances
Taking a chance I might
Find what I'm looking for
There's gotta be something more

Five years and there's no doubt
That I'm burnt out, I've had enough
So now boss man, here's my two weeks
I'll make it short and sweet, so listen up
I could work my life away, but why?
I got things to do before die

[Repeat Chorus]

Some believe in destiny, and some believe in fate
I believe that happiness is something we create
You best belive that I'm not gonna wait
'Cause there's gotta be something more

I get home 7:30 the house is dirt, but it can wait
Yeah, 'cause right now I need some downtime
To drink some red wine and celebrate
Armageddon could be knocking at my door
but I ain't gonna answer thats for sure.
There's gotta be something more!

There's my five. And I'm gonna tag

This was fun! I think in songs, more than words even, so it's really insightful.

I remember Restless Heart when I was in my country phrase. I think Long Lost Friend was even one of my favorite songs. Is it an older song? Like, from ten years or so ago?

[identity profile] why-me-why-not.livejournal.com 2005-08-05 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
sure is, maybe even longer than that. Restless Heart dropped off the scene for quite a while; had an album come out last summer with a beautiful song called Feel My Way to You. Amazing song. But then again, i've always loved Restless Heart.

I gotta think on this one a sec...my hand's tired from typing up "al's Fantastic Fanfiction Feedback File".

Working on it! Stay tuned!
