This ezine focuses on genre literature featuring queer women and was funded through a Kickstarter campaign last year. -- http://www.plungemagazine.com -- The theme for the first issue is "Women and Mythology." The ezine includes six amazing pieces of art (plus a sample gallery from the cover artist on the 'About the Artist' page under 'Front Matter'), five short stories, three poems, and two pieces of flash fiction. The topics range from ancience Egyptian, Greek, and Japanese deities to old family stories and personal idols. -- Additionally! Submissions for the ezine will be opening on March 1st. The theme for issue 1 is "Chase(d)." All genres welcome. Must feature queer women (including trans, ace, and the rest of the quiltbag). Anyone (queer or not, female or not) may submit. Real Fucking Hockey Players by alex smith (rinoa) -- Doug Glatt/Xavier LaFlamme, Doug Glatt/Eva -- Xavier's not stupid. He knows that hockey has its fair share of bromances - when you spend your days traveling and bonding and sweating with the same set of guys, it's pretty much inevitable. He also knows that what he feels when he looks at Doug isn't exactly platonic. It's not even bromantic or whatever bullshit term Evgeni and Oleg are cooing at him on any given day.

Esp b/c Xavier was SO SAD and he kinda needs Doug's endless optimism to balance him out. And they need Ava to keep them grounded in reality. (Although, I'd also really read a million words of Xavier fighting with Pat?)

oh lord, oh lord. so when nistasha made me watch it, we created this whole (bizarre, dumb, who actually cares?) side story about pat and doug's brother, and how they totally found love together by watching doug's games on tv alone because nobody else cared and it just gives me feels.

oh my lord, yes.
his poor parents had already gotten used to pat being.............. yknow. himself and all. but now with added BROTHER LOVE (which doug totally supports! he likes those dudes, and if those dudes like each other, that's totally cool! all of his people love each other!)

and eva! eva tries so hard to be family-friendly (and fails within like, the first 10 minutes?) and surprisingly- xavier totally is 100% gentleman and charms the shit out of everyone. (which is later ruined with loud bathroom makeouts. as you do.)

and Doug's mom totally fusses at them about corrupting Xavier, b/c she has no idea about Xavier's history

Xavier thinks it's great, he likes the attention and he can totally do charming when he wants! and Doug just really thinks it's great that his mom likes Xavier! He likes it when people are happy!

(Doug's parents are kinda the worst. I mean, it's mostly unintentional and mostly deliberate obliviousness, but still. SO BAD. But since in my headcanon, Xavier's parents aren't around and Eva's probably aren't either, holidays with the Glatts is where it's at.)

(also, let me sidetrack for a minute and talk about the actors. b/c I love Sean William Scott, that's nothing new, and I'm really sad his dad is kinda a douche b/c he's my favorite dad b/c of American Pie! and the guy that plays Ira is my favorite guy from Flashpoint. And apparently Jay Baruchel (Pat) was actually one of the writers for Goon, which amuses the hell out of me)

(also also, now you totally have me wanting to write the story of Ira and Pat falling in love. Damn you.)

(i knooooow they are worst. but headcanon = they have a change of heart and begrudgingly accept their son's lives as what they are, and not what they wanted them to be! and then, acceptance and love and meddling!!)

(ugh. I will potentially write the Ian/Pat story IF after that I can write ridiculous kid!fic? Like, where one of the (many many) girls Xavier was with during his pre-Doug Shame Spiral (as Ava calls it) shows up with a kid that supposedly belongs to him, and he doesn't know what to do with a kid, and Ava doesn't WANT to know what to do with a kid, and Doug is ALL EXCITED ABOUT IT!! and so is his mom b/c she was thinking she was never going to get a grandchild. complete with them calling ira for help and he's all I'M A SURGEON, NOT A PEDIATRICIAN!)
