The story of my life the past couple weeks has been RAIN. Ugh. Last summer, and last year all together actually, our area was way down in rainfall & we had ponds drying up and lakes being dozens of feet below full and water restrictions and whatever. We got a ridiculous amount of rain and snow in JANUARY and made up for all that, but Mother Nature didn't think that was enough because this has seriously been the wettest year I can remember. A couple weeks ago, the night I went to the NKOTB concert in Charlotte with cousin!Amy, Salem flooded - flash flooding, cars getting stuck on main roads, my brother's basement flooded. Last Wednesday, there was flooding that was more gradual - a lot of the lower areas of the valley were evacuated, and for the first time since we moved into this house, we got water in the basement. It started out just a little, like enough to cover the floors, and then it started to recede so I thought it was safe to go to sleep. Wrong! Mom got up about an hour after I went to bed and there were four inches of water in the basement. Ugh. So, our 4th of July was spent with sump pumps and water brigades and other fun stuff. In the rain, lol. My bedroom is downstairs, which sucks, because for the last week I've been having to sleep in the living room and have no place to hide and rest. I was going to move back into my bedroom but good thing I didn't, because we got a nice covering of water in the basement again last night. Our front and back yards both look like swamps. Our road has flooded four times in the past month. AND IT'S STILL RAINING! I know other places are dealing with worse flooding, so I am thankful that our situation isn't that dire, but I'd still love to see the sun for the rest of the summer. And maybe send this rain out to Colorado or Arizona or somewhere they could use it. (Yesterday, the entire downtown area of the valley flooded. Like, there was someone kayaking through the middle of downtown. I can't even.)
Today the rain did hold off until the 5th inning of the second game of the Salem Red Sox double header, so that was good. (Oh, and there was no rain Tuesday evening, which is when we went to the Fair) But there was only a bit of sunshine all day. The crowd was decent, considering the weather and the Fair (the fair gets set up in the parking lot that is shared between the civic center, the salem red sox, and the high school football stadium, so parking is kinda a huge issue and red sox attendance is always down during fair week.), but it was cheap beer night, so. We ended up with 8 foul balls - Davey got 5, Ronnie got 1, and I caught one pretty much on accident. (also, the gm for the salem red sox is quitting, and leaving in the middle of the season so his replacement can get a feel for the job/team/fans/whatever before next season or something, but the only thing important in the article about it was the fact that since Boston became our affiliate, ball game attendance has steadily declined and fan satisfaction keeps dropping. Um, duh. Haven't I been complaining since we became the red sox?)
Last Sunday, my brother Tim and his girlfriend Jamie announced they decided on a date for their wedding. July 13. Like, tomorrow. So this week has been getting stuff thrown together for a rush wedding. I so hope the weather cooperates, because they're getting married at the church but are having a party afterward at the house and I don't want to think of all those people crammed inside. All those kids. Also, the two bridges in my brother's driveway have already been washed out twice this year.
I really don't like the new tab feature in gmail. Is there a way I can make everything in my inbox just one list again?
There was more I was thinking I wanted to say, but apparently it wasn't important enough to remember. Love you guys. <3
