This actually needs to be its own 'verse. So consider this the first part and I may come back to write more later?

Summary: Harry and Draco take Teddy to Chicago the summer before he starts Hogwarts.

Harry glances over at his traveling companions: Draco with his head against the window, snoring just a little, and Teddy in the seat between them, leaning on Draco's shoulder, silent and still and young. It’s so hard to believe he’s going to Hogwarts in just a few short months. Harry sighs and opens the book he had brought with him, Seamus' latest novel. He hoped Teddy would at least stay awake and keep him company for a while, since he knew better than to expect Draco would. Draco detests Muggle transportation, but Trans-oceanic Apparition is complicated, dangerous, and draining. There is no way Harry was going to start their summer off with that.

This summer is about Teddy. Teddy usually doesn't exhibit many traits of being a werewolf. Mainly, he's extra restless, irritable, and aggressive around the time of the full moon.  Occasionally, he'll accidentally change into a puppy, but it's more like an Animagus transformation than anything else.  He hasn't figured out how to change voluntarily, but he's gotten better about controlling when he does change.  It can still be a problem when he's extremely tired or when he's ill.

He's possibly overtired when they get to Chicago, mostly due to the time zone differences but partially just from travel weariness. They're walking from their hotel to Mac's the first night they're in town.  Teddy's shuffling his feet and randomly stopping to stare at various things -- Draco and Harry keep having to stop themselves from running into him when he does -- and he's getting increasingly cranky.  Harry suggests that they get their food to go, or even just go back to the hotel and order room service or something, which is what Draco had suggested to begin with.  Teddy's not having any of it, though; he wants Mac's and he's not eating Muggle American food when there's world famous wizarding pub right there. His demands are getting increasingly whinier.  Harry can see how hard Draco's trying to keep his own crankiness in check dealing with Teddy, and he's reminded of the Black blood -- and stubbornness -- that runs through them both.  He wonders why they're even still discussing it when Mac's is only a few steps away. It's almost comical when Teddy stomps his foot and instantaneously turns into a puppy.

Harry scoops him up with a sigh.  "Well, I guess that settles that," he says.  "I'll wait here with Moopy while you go order us something to go."

Draco nods and ruffles the puppy's fur before turning to walk into the pub.

"Silly boy," Harry whispers, holding Moopy up so he can look in his eyes.  "We have got to figure out a way to control this before we send you to Hogwarts."

The only solution they've been offered thus far is a steady supplement of wolfsbane, which is expensive, has undesirable side effects, and Teddy hates the taste of.  No, there have to be other options.

Harry is startled from his thoughts when a couple about his age walks up.  The woman immediately starts cooing over the puppy and asks if she can hold him.  Harry doesn't think twice about handing him over, even though said puppy is his godson and not actually a pet.

The man walks up and offers his hand. “I’m William Borden. Will. This is my wife, Georgia.”

“Harry Potter.” With more than ten years and half a world between him and Voldemort, Harry felt comfortable giving his name to the strangers. “And this is Moopy. We’re on holiday from Britain.”

“Are you coming in?” William asked, gesturing towards the door of Mac’s pub.

Harry shook his head. “No, my husband is picking us up an order to take back to our hotel. It’s been a long couple days of traveling.”

As if he heard Harry talking about him, Draco reappeared with two bags of food. “Aww, Ted-Moopy, did you help Uncle Harry make new friends?”

Harry rolled his eyes – Draco wasn’t nearly as funny as he thought he was – and rescued Georgia from the wriggling puppy in her arms. “Draco, this is William and Georgia Borden. Will and Georgia, my husband, Draco Malfoy.” He tried not to laugh at the way Draco had to juggle his purchases into one hand in order to shake with Will and Georgia.

“Well, it’s a pleasure meeting you. We’d better get going, though, before Harry loses control of Moopy.” Draco gestured to where Teddy was doing his best to scramble out of Harry’s grasp and get at the food.

“Of course. Enjoy your time in Chicago, and I hope you’ll be able to come back for an actual meal here at Mac’s. It’s the best place around.”

“Besides,” Georgia added, patting Teddy on the head one last time, “Mac’s is the only place that’s going to let you bring a dog inside, especially one that’s not on a leash.”

They were almost back at the hotel when Harry said, “Looks like we might need to invest in a collar and leash while we’re here,” and shuffled the increasingly heavy sleeping puppy from one arm to the other.

A couple nights later, Harry, Draco, and Teddy were in Mac’s, enjoying an early dinner, when Will and Georgia walked in. Georgia smiled when she saw them and made a beeline for their table while Will headed up to the counter. Harry panicked a little, wondering what he was going to say when she asked where Moopy was and who Teddy was. Teddy was technically an unregistered Animagus, even if he couldn’t control when he changed, and his secret could land a lot of people in a lot of trouble. She simply ruffled Teddy’s hair and dropped down into a seat beside him.

“Hey! I was wondering if I was going to see you guys again!” She smiled at Harry and Draco before turning her attention back to Teddy. “So, how are you enjoying Chicago? Seen anything exciting yet?”

Teddy was obviously delighted by the attention and immediately launched into the details of their trip to the Natural History Museum. He had been particularly fascinated by the Tyrannosaurus Rex, and Georgia laughed as she said she was familiar with Sue. There was obviously a story there, and Teddy looked like he was about to ask what it was, but Will appeared with the food for him and Georgia.

“Harry, Draco, good to see you again.” He nodded at them as he set down the plates, then held his hand out to Teddy. “Hello, young man. I’m William, but please call me Will.”

Teddy shook his hand and introduced himself seriously, “Theodore Lupin, but please call me Teddy.” He studied Will for a moment before adding, “Are you two wizards?”

“No,” Will said, pulling out the chair beside Georgia. “We’re friends with a few of them, though, and Mac’s is Neutral Territory, besides being one of the best restaurants in town and the best place to get ale.”

Georgia looked at Teddy and then back at Will, biting her lip and looking like she was considering divulging a secret. “We’re werewolves,” she blurted out, glancing at Harry and Draco for their reactions.

Harry was shocked, and he was sure Draco was too – seriously, werewolves parading around like they were part of everyday society was not something they were used to. Even ten years after the Final Battle, the werewolves of Wizarding Britain were still fighting for their rights – but Teddy’s eyes lit up and Harry could imagine the gears turning in his head, the questions just piling up.

“What type of werewolf?” Draco asked, trying to get a question in before Teddy started.

“We’re very similar to what you would call and Animagus, only we’re not wizards.”

“Why don’t we finish eating?” Harry suggested. “Then we can talk more, because if we let Teddy get started now, everyone’s going to be eating cold food.”

Will nodded in agreement. “Good idea. How about after we eat, you come back to our apartment? That way we can answer all your questions in privacy. Plus, it’s Game Night, so you can meet some of our friends.”

Harry felt Draco squeeze his hand under the table and felt the unvoiced concerns. They didn’t know these people, didn’t know that it was safe, and they couldn’t put Teddy in danger. But they didn’t feel dangerous, and Harry wasn’t as trusting as he had once been, so he trusted his instincts a lot more than he used to. He squeezed Draco’s hand back and nodded. “Okay.”
