So, I totally fell asleep last night during the race, in the middle of txtng with [livejournal.com profile] snarkyrainbow and following livetweets from my NYC girls about PStump. Woke up around 2am, asked my brother who won the race (Matt Kenseth, for those keeping track), tried to play catch up on twitter/email but that didn't last very long. Seriously, I am SO TIRED these days, esp when I actually take meds for my headaches.

I'm kinda depressed that my brother is out here playing basketball with Davey, and Harley is planting flowers in the yard, and I can't do either. :( (Ronnie is at his other momma's house again) But it's a nice day, so I have the munchkin in her cage out here on the back porch. Roger and Maddie wanted us to come down to the lake for cookout/boatride/etc this evening, but I don't think I can handle that ride today. But Tim just came back from the store with steaks, so haha. He bought extra if anyone wants to come over for dinner, lol.

I've noticed that I have a bad habit of writing about nothing when I write fic. Like, one of the things I have up right now is 1500 words but half of it is really unimportant and pointless. Ridiculousness!

You may remember me saying something about [livejournal.com profile] apiphile writing Inception fic that was het and that I'd be disappointed if it was skipped over because of the pairing. You may also remember that I haven't seen Inception, but I like to read AUs and actually like to read fics by authors I like in fandoms I don't know because I can imagine the characters however I like in my own head. And it's easier than most with [livejournal.com profile] apiphile's fic, because I have read her original fic and even though TV and BPV aren't actually original fic, they are both worlds of their own. anyway, fic rec.

Take a good swing at all my dreams by [livejournal.com profile] apiphile
Written for [livejournal.com profile] i_reversebang
Inception || Ariadne/Eames, Arthur/Cobb, past Arthur/Eames || NC-17 || 28,800-ish
Warnings: Some violence, it's a boxing AU!
Summary/notes: This. Only a lot longer.

[livejournal.com profile] crotalus_atrox's Art Post and the fanmix posting.

I loved this AU, a lot, and when I'm feeling more clearheaded I'm going to go back and reread it because I have comments for [livejournal.com profile] apiphile that I didn't leave for her the first time I read it. But yall should go read fic / enjoy the art & music / leave love for author and artist.

I'm gonna go put the tilapia in marinade and then email [livejournal.com profile] asimplechord. <3

Ugh. I am made of so much fail these days, you guys. I don't even know where to start. The worst part is, I didn't even realize how much I was failing, because it didn't dawn on me that I was actually in a depressive state because I'm not actually to the point of feeling suicidal. And on what fucking scale of normal does that equate? Blah.

Sorry to dump a bunch of whining on your flist pages. How about some links to make up for it?

Stay Awake When I'm Asleep by [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane
TSN RPF (Jesse Eisenberg/Andrew Garfield) || 36,000 words || Contents May Include: An ASTONISHING amount of curtainfic and schmoop. A lot of nonsense. Some sex.

Nameless But Not Unknown by [livejournal.com profile] torakowalski
TSN RPF Jesse/Andrew || R || 19,000 || warnings: Amnesia. Ridiculous amounts of h/c (with emphasis on the comfort).

Make your own joke about wolves by [livejournal.com profile] apiphile
Inception || Ariadne/Eames || PG || 2900
Summary: Oh like you didn't want to see Tom Hardy in a dress.
I should point out that I have never seen Inception, my only concept of the Inception characters is from [livejournal.com profile] apiphile's fic and ramblings, and I don't usually read het. But I generally love anything she writes enough to include it on my rec lists. So if anyone skips over it just because it's HET? I would be disappointed.

And speaking of het I don't usually read, I haven't read anything from HP fandom in a long time, but one of the pairings I did follow there was Granger/Snape, and this was written as a gift fic for a very lovely friend of mine:

The Granger Solution by [livejournal.com profile] talesofsnape
HP || Granger/Snape || slightly nsfw || ~22000 words || full of tension, flirting, wit, and banter
written for [livejournal.com profile] keladry_lupin

And the last link isn't a fic rec, but a link that was shared on twitter by Chip Coffey, who some of you may know from Paranormal State (stfu, I love that show! Even if I totally make up fic for the actors in my head sometimes, and think Ryan has gotten too big for his britches over the seasons.) or Psychic Kids on A&E. Either way, I kinda find Chip Coffey to be amusing and entertaining.

Ten Ways to Become More Psychic

Okay, so I'm gonna go pretend to sleep or pretend to be productive but really just end up watching bad movies on Netflix or tossing and turning in my bed while writing fic in my head that'll be forgotten by morning, but whatever. I love you guys, even when I'm being fucktarded because I'm fucking crazy. Stupid fucking bipolar.

DUDE! THIS WEEK IS ALL ABOUT AWESOME POSTS ON MY FLIST!!

Favorite authors posting fic is always A++, so let's start there:

Shelter by [livejournal.com profile] stratospherique
Shelter || 2800 words || Porn with a dash of sexual orientation questioning || Title comes from the movie this is loosely intended to be a prequel to- see it. Surf dudes having feelings and sex, what more could you want? Seeing the movie is massively unnecessary for reading, though, it's intended to stand entirely on its own.

Memoirs: Epilogue also by [livejournal.com profile] stratospherique
Porn || Features fluff and warm fuzzy feelings.
(goes along with The Curious Case Of The Firecrotch: This Is Why We Don't Write Our Memoirs While Drunk, Ben., which [livejournal.com profile] stratospherique wrote with [livejournal.com profile] apiphile)

And [livejournal.com profile] apiphile has ruined me for Inception. I still haven't seen the movie (yes, I do live under a rock, I think this has previously been established), but Del mentioned earlier that I'm probably going to be disappointed that the movie is not actually wall-to-wall porn. SHE WOULD NOT BE WRONG!

Summer by [livejournal.com profile] apiphile
Inception || 3,100 words || Ariadne/Eames

And speaking of fandoms I'm not in, [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane wrote Jesse Eisenberg/Andrew Garfield fic. I'm not in TSN RPF fandom! I barely know who Andrew Garfield is!! But this fic is adorable and hysterical and I love it SO MUCH and her Justin is quite possibly my favorite thing about the fic, except that the entire thing is my favorite. (“What you need to do,” said Justin, totally ignoring him, “is send him a naked picture of yourself. That’s how this shit works. I saw it on To Catch A Predator.”)

Don't Carry It All by [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane
25,000 words of Jesse/Andrew awkwardnes goodness, with a healthy dose of Justin.
It started because Justin decided to set up a dating profile for Jesse against his will.

Also on my flist this week, this awesomely happy-making multi-fandom picspam from [livejournal.com profile] sonicbookmark (who I adore and am going to kidnap so we can run away and get married), several awesome recaps from LA CON from [livejournal.com profile] wendy (complete with pictures!), PatD concert and m&g recaps from [livejournal.com profile] sunsetmog, pictures from [livejournal.com profile] pecos's Asia Adventures, and lots of flailing about Discos and PStump and MF'ing EMPIRES (yall have all gone to vote for them, right?)!

This is totally a happy week!!

Okay, so I have three fics in progress (one for [livejournal.com profile] irisgirl12000 about Baby Belle, since I never sent it to her last week and is technically just a snippet); one for [livejournal.com profile] swear_jar, which I'm going to pretend is her birthday present so as to explain the delay in finishing it; and one for [livejournal.com profile] jackiesjunkie) and a post I wanted to make about my weekend. And I have a shiny new laptop!! I also have a headache, but no one will be surprised to hear that.

Instead of all those things, though, right now I'm going to talk about helping your fellow LJ-ers and also throw out a couple fic recs!

I am selfish enough to put a link to my own stuff first, so if you haven't had a chance to check out my Relay for Life post, please do so. :)

[livejournal.com profile] apiphile has a post here where she is offering words for donations made to [livejournal.com profile] soda_and_capes or [livejournal.com profile] myselftheliar. For details and/or information about what they need donations for, check that post.

[livejournal.com profile] danacias brought this Groupon deal to my attention, and the offer runs through midnight EST tonight, so I'm going to steal part of the post she made about this.

If you're reading this, there is a good chance you know - or know of - [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane. More specifically, you may know that she teaches at a public school in New York, and that she encourages her students to participate in the book club she runs. Approximately 25 kids are currently signed up, but very few of them can afford to buy the books they collectively decide to read, and the public libraries usually only carry a few copies of a given book, so most of the books the students read are purchased by [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane or by flisters who are able to pitch in for books.

If you've got $10 available for the book club, the current NYC Super Groupon from Barnes & Noble would actually give the class $20 worth of books. So if their next book is $9.99 each, they could buy two books with one Groupon. So, you know, if you can spare $10 for a Groupon for her class, it would be wildly appreciated. By me, by her, by the kids in the book club. If not, no worries. Really.

Again, here is the link for the current Super Groupon from Barnes & Noble. Basically, you buy the groupon and forward the email confirmation or just the coupon code to [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane. (of course, if you want to use this groupon for yourself, it's a good deal any way you go)

Background: [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane teaches high school students (9th - 12th grade) but uses 6th grade textbooks because so few of her students enter her class able to read at proper grade level. She commits a lot of time and effort into creating lesson plans that will motivate her students to do part of their assigned homework, so the fact that she has kids reading harder material in their free time because of her encouragement is kind of amazing.

Now, fic recs:

A Steady Diet of Sodapop and Ritalin by [livejournal.com profile] jmc_bks
GK Brad/Ray AU, ~4400 words
Summary: Brad likes elevator music and musical theater; Ray decides he must be schooled in real music.
I adore this whole AU that J has created, and I am so glad that she is writing fic and sharing it. I love her Brad and Ray - and the mention of Gabe Saporta - and I know she is staying a little under the radar, so I'm hoping that some of you will go read this and leave her some encouraging comments. I promise you'll like it.

The Curious Case Of The Firecrotch: This Is Why We Don't Write Our Memoirs While Drunk, Ben. by [livejournal.com profile] stratospherique and [livejournal.com profile] apiphile
A Fail Noir Adventure
Rated Not Appropriate For All Audiences for swearing, drunken pillow fucking, scandalous histories, and detailed erotic encounters of the homosexual persuasion.
Approximately 22,000 words in length
okay, so I may have had a reaction of a high pitched squee and hand clapping when I saw this. I haven't even started reading yet, but I am so excited to see new fic from these two - I love it when they write together. (not to say I don't love their individual writing as well) I plan on spending my evening curled up with my shiny new laptop reading this.

Okay, I'm going to try to take something else for my headache because I have to start some laundry and stuff before I go pick the boys up from karate. <3

So, [livejournal.com profile] apiphile said this: I need to find a comm for fannish discussion which centres on the quality, style, and execution of writing. Something which talks about how information is fed to the audience, about how things are paced, about the craftsmanship of the storytelling in the text (be it written or filmed) rather than the content of the writing/the story. I want to talk about how the author achieved X and Y effect, their choice of dialogue, their use of adverbs, their pacing and their sentence lengths, etc.

And by "not the content" I mean I don't want essays about how such and such may or may not have been racist, I am not interested in the social issues brought up by the story or the number of queer character or if women were correctly depicted. I am not interested in character detail or world-building at this point. I *am* interested in plotting processes and what evidence can be seen of particular types in a finished product.

And, after the chiming in of a few others, [livejournal.com profile] criticalfandom was created!

For:

Fannish discussion of media (TV, films, books, comics) which focuses on the quality, style, and execution of the writing.

Discussion of how information is fed to an audience, at what speed and through what means.

Questions about how particular effects were achieved in writing; about the craftsmanship involved.

Debate about how specific texts (TV, films, books, comics) could have been improved; whether extra scenes or fewer ones were necessary.

Discussion of dialogue, of adverb and adjective choice, of euphony, of authorial style, of pacing and of sentence lengths.

Questions about terminology are also welcomed.

Join and pimp so we can get the ball rolling and some content up in here. I'm excited for this. Talk about how your favourite stuff is written! YES.

(If you join... or hey, if you don't... pimping of the comm would be much appreciated. It's brand spanking new and needs members to make it work. PLEASE PIMP?)

(Credit goes to [livejournal.com profile] swear_jar for this post, b/c I am a thieving thief who thieves. And I like her words.)

So, I am quite often ready to brag about the awesomeness of [livejournal.com profile] apiphile (and my subsequent awesomeness for having her as a friend!) but this is definitely something to be excited about.

Help: Twelve Tales of Recovery

So again, particularly in light of their work in Kyrgyzstan at the moment, I thought it would be a good use of our time to raise some money for Medicine Sans Frontiere/Doctors Without Borders.

I need 12 stories, which can be anything from 1,200 words to 12,000 words long, on the theme of "healing"; the healing in question can be psychological or physical, ideological, etc, but must involve a recognisible sentient being (ie. "healing the environment" is not acceptable as it is not relevant). There must not be graphic pornography in your story.

You may submit more than one story, although only one story will be published. There is no guarantee that your story will be one of the ones published; criteria for inclusion in addition to compliance with the entry requirements includes whether or not I've got enough submissions of suitable length to make the book worth people buying.

The material you submit must be original work; no fanworks, and no sending original work whose printing rights you have already given to someone else.

In order to have this book ready for sale in December [for Christmas] I will need the final draft of your story by the first week of October.

You are encouraged to disseminate this information as far as possible across the interwebs.

Profits from the sales of the book will be donated directly to MSF from the monthly author remittances delivered by Lulu.com.

HEY, THERE IS GRASS GROWING IN MY BACKYARD!!! Yall probably don't understand how significant this is, but OMG IT IS!!

*points to icon* This applies to each and every one of you on a daily basis, but today it's pretty much reserved for [livejournal.com profile] stratospherique, [livejournal.com profile] strangecreature, & [livejournal.com profile] apiphile.

Holdon's birthday is this week and there is supposed to be a shared birthday party for him tomorrow afternoon, but I just got a phone call that there is going to be a separate small party / cookout for him this afternoon for the other side of the family this afternoon but that he and James would really like it if me and the boys could be there. But my Saturday plans are mostly "clean house" and "grocery shop" and "read fic one of my new books", especially since there's a storm front moving in this afternoon.

Speaking of reading:

1. I didn't get my copy of Dragonsoul because NO ONE IN THE FREAKING VALLEY has it, so it had to be ordered for me. :(

2. THIS IS WHAT I WANT TO SPEND MY DAY READING, SO IT'S GOING TO BE MY REWARD FOR GETTING THE HOUSE CLEAN!!!!

Ours Is a Criminal and Uncouth Love (Prisonverse) by [livejournal.com profile] stratospherique, [livejournal.com profile] strangecreature, & [livejournal.com profile] apiphile
Bandom AU || approximately 54,000 || NC-17 || mainly Frank/Bob
Warnings: some dub-con, buttsex, questionable ethics, legal research done by watching Law and Order and skimming Wikipedia.
Summary: LONG ASS PORN ANGSTY LULZ. And, like, acceptance and personal growth and shit. But mostly ANGST PORN GIGGLES.

I have been waiting for MONTHS for this to be finished, omg. I am gonna have to stay away from the internet so I won't spend the afternoon reading it before I get my actual chores done.

3. Also, I'm waiting on recs from BBB, but I've already heard good things about
Possibilities in Basic Space, the zombie! The Used fic by [livejournal.com profile] schneestern. SO EXCITED!!!

Had to go by my daddy beer and cigarettes last night, then spent forever over there while he set off fireworks for the kids in the middle of the street. We were making plans to spend 4th of July weekend at the lake - pig roast & live band & fireworks & all sorts of other nonsense. I'm actually really looking forward to it. I just gotta remember to buy the boys new life vests for the boat b/c they've definitely outgrown the kid sized ones they had last year.

also, we're going on a huge family camping trip the weekend after that, so that's two weekends in a row that I'll be away from civilization with no cell or internet access. Good times? *g*

Oh, and Matt said he'd move to Texas with me and the boys, lol. Seriously, so tempted. <3

Okay, listen up, yall. There is this verse that I absolutely LOVE, and I know that I've mentioned it here on LJ and also in our email chains and probably if I've had an actual conversation with you recently, but I don't think yall understand the magnitude of my love for this world that [livejournal.com profile] stratospherique and [livejournal.com profile] apiphile have created. (also, what does it say about me that my favorite places these past few months have been [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane's schmoopy Johnny/Evan ideas and BPV, which are two worlds so completely opposite I wouldn't even know where to begin comparing them)

Anyway, the Brat Prince Verse is a series of stories created by [livejournal.com profile] stratospherique and [livejournal.com profile] apiphile, both of whom I love as writers and as friends. Here is the master list of links for the Brat Prince Verse. I should probably also link [livejournal.com profile] jumptheshark's posts on borderline personality disorder and mental illness, which are linked in the master post and which I also plan on including in my updated Author & Beta Resource Guide.

Now, on to an abbreviated version of why I love the 'verse. It is delightedly fucked up. It is probably wrong that I love it as much as I do, and that certain bits of it make me SO FRICKEN HAPPY, but it's okay because I'm not the only one who feels this way. I love that it's bits and pieces of their life together - Mat and Bob and Patrick - and that it's not in chronological order and that it's told from different viewpoints in different pieces. It makes it interesting to piece together. Also, the dynamic of their relationship just hits me in ways that I can't explain. Seriously, they hit kinks I didn't even realize that I have, or that I don't admit that I have. Some of it is really fucked up and dark. There is incest that is actually dirtybadwrong, and not in the dirtybadwrongsofuckinghot way of Wincest. Just... wrong and squicky and fucked up, which is how incest actually IS but isn't how it's portrayed most of the time in fandom. (don't get me wrong - I'm a total wincester, but this works on a different level) There are a lot of times that I question Mat's actions and thoughts, but at the same time, I can relate to some of them. SO FUCKED UP. But there is also the faildorableness of Mat trying to take care of a sick!Bob. And there is the kinkiest cuddle!fic ever that totally warms my heart. And there are pictures by [livejournal.com profile] howifall.

Seriously, give these stories a chance, even if you you're not into bandom. Hell, especially if you're not into bandom. I mean, it's AU anyway, and Mat Devine is tragically absent from bandom anyway, and I can provide you with pictures of the characters if you need.

This is Bob Bryar. )

This is Patrick Stump. )

And this is Mat Devine! )

So, GO READ and be sure to leave some love for the authors! Or the artist if you're checking out the associated fanart!

Also, bug [livejournal.com profile] stratospherique for a new Kill Hannah primer, or at least a better picspam than I could come up with b/c I'm easily distracted by shiny. ;) I mean, it's not like she's busy with school or anything...
