Nov. 27th, 2005 07:09 pmAh, the joys of moving :P
I talked to
deliciantasy earlier when I had been banned from helping unload the U-haul, b/c my dad is silly & I'm a girl, but the story gets even better from there. *g*
Backing up, I went shopping Friday morning (yes, I was one of those crazy people) and got almost all my Christmas shopping done, and stayed at Mom's for the afternoon so all the presents are wrapped & hidden. All day Saturday I helped my brother's girlfriend pack stuff and move it to their new house using my brother's Jimmy, and we actually got a lot done. My brother and one of his friends helped after work, and by the time we stopped (about 10 or so last night) we had everything except the big furniture moved. So bro's g/f's nana had rented a U-haul for us to use today to move the big stuff. My dad & my other brother were helping, so Kristina and I just had to stay out of the way. Got everything loaded in one trip, brought the U-haul to the new house, backed it right up to the front porch. They unloaded the truck (while I got to hook the computer up & make sure it was working *g*) and we had one couch that we couldn't get into the basement (the basement is big but the stairs are a pain in the ass) so we were gonna take the couch to Goodwill & take the truck back. Easy, right?
Wrong.
The truck is stuck in reverse. Will not go into drive. Call U-haul. The guy can't help us b/c he's not a manager and tells us to call Roadside. So we call them & they send someone out to look at it, but the guy is coming from Christiansburg, which is a good 45 minutes away. He finally gets there and is there like 5 minutes & decides he needs to call a wrecker. Which is also coming from Christiansburg. So the wrecker finally gets there & we have another problem: my brother's new house is on a dead-end street. So after the wrecker driver gets the truck hooked up (which took well over an hour) he had to pull it out of the yard into the street and then back all the way up to the main road. So we had the entire street blocked for nearly two hours. Nice way to introduce yourself to the neighborhood, know what I mean? *g*
Anyways, that was my weekend adventure. I have a sink full of dishes and a pile of laundry calling my name; I'll try to be back on later.
*hugs*
Oh, and I'm sure I'm not the only one still having problems receiving LJ-comment-reply-notifications, but I just want to let everyone know I'm not ignoring you if I don't respond.
