Ugh, yall, I hate this place sometimes.

We have two local news stations. They both suck.

One of them has a headline story about a former porn-star who joined the volunteer rescue squad. People are trying to get her fired because "safety workers must exhibit the highest degree of trustworthiness & public esteem." In the article on their website (to correspond with their on-air report), there is a link to google her name "and you'll find hundreds of pornographic videos of her." Really? How is this news?? Who thought this was a good idea? Apparently no one who works fire and rescue has a questionable past? None of them have had sex or done anything that other people would consider immoral? (I know for a fact that shit's not true.) No matter what she did in the past, which isn't even WRONG, it has nothing to do with what she's doing now. She passed the criminal background check, completed her training, and has been running calls for MONTHS with no problems. As long as she knows what she's doing, does it really matter that she used to have sex on camera for a living? I'm so frustrated.

And we've had numerous issues with our local SPCA/RCACP - the same administration runs the SPCA and the Regional Center for Animal Control & Protection (the pound) from the same building, but until recently (and it required a huge protest) didn't allow volunteers at the pound, didn't allow animals to be photographed and put on facebook or rescue sites, didn't do anything to help get these animals into furever homes instead of putting them to sleep. Surrounding counties have huge, expensive contracts with RCACP but don't use them - they send their animals to the local rescues instead. (There's more shitty stuff that goes on, like if an animal is adopted from the SPCA and returned, it's put to sleep on the RCACP side of the building instead of being allowed back on the SPCA side; adoptions for the RCACP are by appointment only and appointments are only available in a 2 hour daily timeframe; animals who have been turned over to RCACP have been neglected and denied medical treatment; the list goes on) Last week, two volunteers were "fired" because they took photos of cats with Euthanasia cards on their cages that claimed the euthanasia reason was "space" even though there were more than ample amount of space for those cats and more. Those pictures were posted to facebook, and all the cats were either adopted or rescued the next day. THIS is a story that should be reported on.

Ugh. Yall, Idek why I live here anymore.
