Cash is used to waking up to mornings, real mornings with sunshine and birds singing and being able to tell it’s actually a new day. It’s one of the most difficult things about adjusting to life on tour. Half the time, it’s dark when one of the others shakes him awake for his turn at the wheel, and in some of the cities he doesn’t even see the sun although he knows it’s daytime. He’s never sure exactly what day it is, though, since they all start to run together. At least someone is always willing to make a coffee run with him. He thinks caffeine has surpassed his bandmates in his affections, especially on mornings when he wakes up to Singer’s bad rendition of Hallelujah coming from the shower. Still, he loves getting up on stage, loves hanging with the other bands. He wouldn’t trade this life for anything.

Dean ducks as a picture frame shatters on the wall just behind his head. The past few weeks have been a blissful peek into the life of real people. He’s not even feeling restless (yet), but last night a black dog had followed him home, putting Lindsey’s life in danger. So this morning he loaded down the Impala and had breakfast waiting. Then he started an argument, told her he was leaving. Better to leave now than to wait for some creature of the dark to use her against him. Better he break her dishes now than her heart later.
