Dean and Sam, howling, martini, rubber duck
you, my dear, get Christmas in almost-July. Goober.
"I can't believe you didn't know that!" Dean complained as he followed Sam into their motel room and dropped his bag on the floor.
They were stumbling in just before midnight on Christmas Eve, having just left the local bar. They had been playing video trivia against another couple of travelers, and the topic of Christmas Classics had come up on Sam's turn. And they had lost. Dean hated to lose.
"Oh, c'mon, Dean!" Sam kicked off his shoes and flopped onto the bed. "What was the name of the bar in Bedford Falls? Who would know that the answer to that was Martini's?"
"Everyone but you, apparently!" Dean sat down on the edge of the bed to take his boots off. "I mean, it's only from the most classic Christmas film of all time! They run it every year for weeks!"
"Well, I apologize for not having a traditional family Christmas movie growing up," Sam replied sarcastically, laying down on his side and propping himself up on his elbow to watch Dean. "I don't think we had any family Christmas traditions."
"You mean, other than you getting all upset because you didn't get what you wanted?"
Sam grabbed a pillow from above his head and swatted Dean with it.
"I'm serious!" Dean persisted. "There was that one Christmas you just wouldn't stop crying because Santa didn't bring you a rubber duck."
"Dean, I was four!"
"You were five! And you were obsessed with Sesame Street and that stupid rubber duckie song." And Dad had forgotten the rubber duck. Dean had snuck off the next day to fight with the after-Christmas shoppers and buy one, but the damage had already been done.
"If we're gonna bring up the ghosts of Christmas past--"
"Oh, so you know that movie?"
"It's a book, Dean." Sam glared at his brother. "What about that year you were hiding under the bed because you thought the carolers on the front porch were werewolves?"
"Dude, they were awful! They sounded like they were howling! And I wasn't hiding; I was protecting you!"
"You pulled me under there!"
"Yeah, well... shut up, Sam!" Dean reached for the remote and flicked the TV on as he lay back on the bed beside his brother. A black and white movie flashed to life on the screen, and Dean grinned. "I told you this is the classic Christmas movie."
