Went to Walmart after class tonight to do Easter Bunny shopping, got home just after 11 and the house was all quiet and dark. Asked my stepdad where everyone was -- apparently the season opener went into extra innings. So I went over to the ballpark and met up with everyone, but I didn't stay b/c my nephew was tired & ready to go home so I took him and left. But seriously, it was the top of the 12th inning! What the flippers?? Salem ended up losing, though, 6 to 8. Whatever, I'm NOT HAPPY AT ALL about this new deal. I am trying SO HARD to be optimistic about it, but it's so not happening.

Just so you know, this rant would be accompanied with pictures if my scrapbooks and stuff weren't in storage. But most of my life is in storage b/c I fail at life, so there's that. Anyway. We used to be the Salem Buccaneers, when I was a kid. The year I was 15 was the last season of that. When we were bought out by Colorado then, there was a lot of community/fan involvement in the changes that were being made. There was a big party at the field after the last game the Buccaneers played, and before that there had been contests to pick the new mascot and then to name the new mascot, and there was a lot of POSITIVE support in the community and stuff. We were excited to be the Avalanche! We were the Avalanche for 12 years! Even after we switched from being affiliated with the Rockies to being affiliated with the Astros. Dude, Carolina League baseball has been a Salem tradition since like the 50s. So why the fuck are people saying they'll come to games now that we're affiliated with Boston? Fucktards. THAT'S A STUPID REASON TO DEVELOP A DESIRE TO SUPPORT YOUR HOMETOWN TEAM!

The new management closed off 2000 general admission seats in the stadium. Including the ones where we usually sit, down at the end of the third base side. We like sitting there b/c we catch more foul balls, we're away from the crowd, and the kids don't really bother anyone. They say they're trying to make it a more community-like atmosphere. I call bullshit. They weren't selling GA tickets to tonight's game; my cousin had to buy reserve seats (for $2 extra a ticket) to get in and she sat with my mom & them anyway. My mom and I bought ticket books when we got the kids their Kids Club memberships, so my mom used those and didn't have a problem, but that's still fucking retarded.

Now I hear that they introduced new mascots. I swear to fuck, if they get rid of Mugsy and Misty, then can take their ballpark and shove it up their asses. Mugsy and Misty aren't just mascots, they are part of the community. They got married before a ballgame back in like 2003 or 2004!! They appear at all the kid-friendly events in the valley all year round!

I didn't go to the game tonight, obviously, but we have family passes for tomorrow night, and I'm supposed to go Saturday too, so we'll see how it goes. I'm hoping it gets better, b/c spending summer evenings at the ballgames is a tradition for us, and I'd hate to lose that. :(

Now, I gotta go email [livejournal.com profile] reallythateasy b/c I told her I would send her fic hours ago. Oops?
