I did not win the lottery for my birthday, which is boo. I did get an awesomely terrible sunburn though! I know I'm not supposed to be in direct sunlight with the medications I'm on, but I never actually think about it until after I've been in the sun. The middle of my back, between my shoulder blades, is killing me. It's all sore and tight and blistery. Yuck. Also, my back/shoulders/arms itch like crazy.

I hate the beach, if only because of the number of people there. But a little bit of my problem with the beach is looking out on the horizon and seeing nothing. It kinda freaks me out. I'm used to seeing mountains in every direction. (We went for Chinese food for dinner on Sunday with Amy and Cliff, and my "fortune" said "Life is a mountain, not a beach." That's pretty much accurate for me!) But Friday the boys and I went to a beach that's actually in Sandbridge, so more in the residential part of Virginia Beach than the touristy part, and it was pretty uncrowded and the boys had a great time. That afternoon we went to Motor World and played in the arcade and raced go karts and played on the bumper boats. RT and his kids met us there, then we met up with Mom and got settled in to our hotel. Our hotel was across from Neptune Park in Virginia Beach, so even though it wasn't on the beach proper, it was directly across the street and had a clear perfect view of the ocean. We were on the fifth floor, and the elevator only went to the fourth floor most of the time and I hate elevators anyway, so the kids and I took the stairs every time. And I swear, one of us said "jumping up and down on the alligators!" every time someone decided to take the elevator instead. (Bedtime Stories is a very popular movie in this house, haha.) There was also a pool on the roof of the hotel. I managed to avoid going to the beach in the daylight and never saw the pool, so I count that as a win! :) We did walk the "strip" and the beach at night. There was live music in Neptune Park both Friday and Saturday nights, and there were various street performers up and down the strip. We also went treasure hunting on the beach.

Ronnie was being a shit on Saturday and didn't want to go to competition, so only Davey went. And Davey only competed in two divisions - weapons and kata - but he brought home a trophy in each division. There were like 27 schools at competition, and our school only had 4 competitors, but every one of our four kids placed well enough to earn a trophy in each division they competed in. I think that says something about AFK's awesomeness, right? I was kinda meh about the judges for Davey's group. It was obvious it was the first time any of them had judged at a competition, and one of them was only a red belt when all judges are supposed to be black belt, and idk, I'm just being a mom. The kids who placed higher than Davey did deserve it - in kata, he stumbled once and there were a few of his forms that weren't as sharp as they could have been, and in weapons the other kids who was using nunchucks was better than Davey, but the girl who took first in weapons was using a bow and she didn't really demonstrate anything with it? It was more like watching a performance at a cheerleading or band competition - it was totally a choreographed routine but didn't show off her skill with her weapon. Not saying she wasn't good, because she was, but I think she was scored more on style than on skill. Plus, the judges gave points that were overall really low. In the grand scheme of things, that DOES matter, because at the end of the year, all the points the competitors earn for the year are added up for ranks. Also, in yet another example of how other parents annoy me, after the weapons competition, Davey asked the kid who beat him to show him how to do some particular move, and they were working on it in the hallway, and that kid's mom came and pulled him away, telling him not to be giving pointers to his competition. Um, wtf? Yeah, I get that they're competing, but overall it's a learning experience. Crazy people.

Sunday after we checked out, me and RT took the kids to Norfolk to the Nauticus and the Naval Museum. And we went mermaid hunting. (In Norfolk, they have mermaid statues at various places downtown, like dozens of them, and they're all decorated differently, and it's a kind of game to try and find them all.) Then RT and his kids went home and we went to meet up with Amy and Cliff for dinner and ice cream and hang times.

And that was our weekend. :) Now it's back to the real world. The boys have school this week and then a day and a half next week, but they're not really doing anything. Field days and move up day and their multicultural day. I think they both have a "read in" day this week too, where they bring snacks and a book to school and pretty much do nothing for most of the day. Funtimes.

I think that's it? I should be sleeping, but I'm obviously not. I'm feeling better in general, but there's a lot of things that are still fucked up. I'm TRYING to be less whiny though.

Oh, and my blackberry died, again, so Verizon is fedexing me a new one. Technology!

One week from now, we'll be sitting in the ridiculously hot civic center being bored by graduation speeches. Also, I'm totally gonna cry. I can't believe my teenagers are graduating!! (Well, Hallie is technically already graduated since she was homeschooled, and Chrissy graduates on Friday b/c she's at a different school, but Harley and Johnathan and Jamie graduate next week.) That wasn't the point of this entry though.

I'm not really identifying with a particular fandom these days, which is kinda weird. I mean, I still belong to fandom as a whole, and I've got my fingers in various fandom pies, lol, but I don't have a primary fandom right now.

I'm in the slow process of moving all my fics over to a fic journal. Rereading some of them makes me want to delete everything I ever wrote, haha, but some of them surprise me that I actually LIKE them. Apparently I'm not as bad as I thought?

I have a mostly written fics on my laptop for Being Human (the US version), Shameless (also the US version), and Jesse/Andrew (yes, the kitten!fic). I also have fic that I'm not writing for a fandom I'm not in, lol. Looking at the tabs that I have open on firefox right now, there's a bbb, an old SPN fic, several GK fics, one of my own GK fics, a couple fast&furious fics, and a couple original fics. Oh, and instructions on making a diaper cake. Amy's baby shower is Saturday.

Also, this time last year, I had just returned from Texas and [livejournal.com profile] asimplechord had made me start watching GK, so I had to get links for the rest of GK. Technically that makes this my anniversary of GK-do, I guess? So my plans for this evening involve rewatching GK and pretending that the Real World doesn't exist right now.

Love yall!
