an update in list version

1. Danica Patrick has the pole for the Daytona 500 next weekend. I mean, yay for her? Idk, I don't get the Danica hype, because she's not really that great a driver, but I don't think Dale Jr is that great either and he's possibly the biggest fan favorite of all, so what do I know. But I am SO FREAKING IRRITATED by all the people whining that "this is why women shouldn't be allowed in men's sports." Ugh, wtaf? I didn't watch qualifying, but I highly doubt that NASCAR officials just gave her the pole. She (and her team) earned it somehow. (Also, the majority of the complainers seem to be female, which is even more wtf.) And I think it's great Danica's getting recognition, I just wish she was a better driver. I know that on the smaller tracks, there are several women racers who actually, y'know, WIN races. Whatever. I am excited about Daytona, though. I missed race season! (Denny Hamlin's totally got my vote for the Chase this year, fyi.)
2. There was a lockdown at Davey's school on Friday. The email from the school officials said it was related to a domestic dispute that involved a child at the school. Davey said someone tried to pick up a kid without authorization. As part of the lockdown, the kids had to sit in the floor of their classroom with the lights off. Apparently one of my friend's kids is TRAUMATIZED FOREVER OMG! about that. Another parent is all upset that we didn't receive email notification about the lockdown until after it was over. Apparently the situation happened around 1130 in the morning and we didn't get an email until just before 2pm. One parent said they it was good we weren't notified while the lockdown was going on b/c they'd have gone down to the school WITH A GUN to take care of the situation themselves. Um, wtaf? And let's not even get into the number of parents saying this makes them even more afraid to send their kids to school. NOTHING EVEN HAPPENED! I will never understand people.
3. Cliff (friend!Amy's hubby) is in town on leave. (His two weeks are almost up; he leaves tomorrow to go back to Bahrain.) Last night we were over there celebrating Amy's birthday (which is Tuesday) and I was kinda not looking forward to it because as much as I love Amy and Zachary, and as much as I want to see Cliff while he's here, being social SUCKS. Especially because I haven't managed to have any ME time (I seriously need like a whole day of not having to interact with anyone else), and we had a kids birthday party to go to on Thursday night where I was forced to talk to people, and Friday I had Illy ALL DAY AND NIGHT as well as Larkin for a few hours that night, and before Amy's party yesterday the boys and I went to the Monster Truck Jam. But the party ended up being pretty low key and I already knew almost everyone there (there were two friends of Amy's there that I hadn't met before, but other than that it was Amy's mom and sister - who I actually am friends with - and Cliff's family, who I know from previous get togethers) and we had a pretty good time. Including a pinata and a very amusing game of Apples to Apples. And Davey was really glad to get to spend some time with Cliff (playing video games and roughhousing and pranking Cliff's brother-in-law who is recovering from knee surgery and fell asleep in the recliner). Davey says Cliff is his best adult friend.
4. Watched American Reunion last night and now I'm all nostalgic for 90s music. Soundtrack to my high school days. :) Also, I'm getting old, lol.
5. Cartoon Elements Make Learning the Periodic Table Fun
6. In Defense of Otters - a rebuttal to claims that the puppies of the sea AKA otters, are the rudest creatures ever. Also, Baby Otter Pups for Everyone!
7.
asimplechord is the best ever. :)
8. I got up at like 4am last night and the world outside was completely snow-coated. It was all gone by 10am, but it's been in the mid-20s all day with a super bitter wind and ugh. I'm ready for spring time now!
