Does ministry prep count toward NaNo wordcounts? Asking for a friend.

Things are flipping insane around here. I don't know why I ever expect that one day things will be calm. I'm trying! I currently have the plague and have no energy, and of course I actually don't have a free day until 2019. Even though I know better! Like, we're on our second or third bible study this year about balance and the imporant of Sabbath and rest. Idk, I need to start taking the things that I know in theory and applying them to Real Life.

I'm trying to figure out if I can get mom out of the house on Saturday so I can have a few hours to myself to turn up the music and get shit organized. Everything being a cluttered mess just makes me more frazzled.

I'm also trying to focus on the positive and be thankful for what I do have and for what does go "right." When I start thinking the opposite way, everything spirals and I have a day like a couple weeks ago which was the Worst Day that I've had in years. Ugh.

Wish me luck!

Here, have some answers to the [community profile] thefridayfive that I've missed this month.

The Friday Five Oct 12 2018

I almost just skipped these questions entirely b/c I don't know how to answer them. I hate trying to think of talents or positive traits about myself. Compliments make me incredibly uncomfortable. And I kinda hate admitting that anywhere because then I get compliments or reassurance or whatever and it feels fake and awkward. (I know it's not actually fake, but my brain is a liar and I have Issues.)

1. What was the best compliment you ever received?
2. What are your five best talents?I'm a decent cook/baker. I generally have good gift-giving instincts. I can occasionally come up with a good turn of phrase.
3. What do you wish most people knew about you, and why? That compliments make me uncomfortable so they'll stop giving them? Lol.
4. What has been your biggest accomplishment so far, and why does it mean so much to you? Surviving
5. If you could achieve anything in your life, what would it be? Happiness and confidence

The Friday Five Oct 19 2018

1. Have you ever bobbed for Apples? I have not, though we set up bobbing-for-apples at the kids' halloween party several years in a row.
2. Do you like a regular or hard apple cider? regular apple cider - I'm not a big drinker
3. Do you have a special type of apple that you prefer over others? Not really. Sometimes I specifically pick red apples or green apples if I'm at the store, but if I'm getting actual apples in the fall, I ususally just grab some while we're at the pumpkin patch or go by the orchard near the house. I prefer granny smiths, with a couple red delicious thrown in the mix, for baking pies though.
4. Have you ever made baked apples? Yes! Quite often, actually.
5. Who is the apple of your eye? Eh, whichever kid is getting on my nerves the least at any given moment?

The Friday Five: Halloween Edition (from 10-26-2018)

1. With Halloween coming this next week, do you have any seasonal activities you're planning on doing for the holiday? Well, since I'm late answering this, Halloween is technically over. But! Saturday, I took church!Amy's kids and went downtown to Pumpkinfest - we met up with their cousins and got to trick-or-treat up/down mainstreet, tour the courthouse, police station, and fire station, have some awesome fresh made donuts, paint pumpkins, play in the bounce houses, and have lunch. Saturday night I went with cousin!Amy, Beth, Chloe, and Sami to see Hocus Pocus at the theater. Sunday I was supposed to do a trunk or treat with my son's girlfriend's mom but I didn't because I had the plague and Sunday and Monday were the worst days for it. Monday, I volunteered for the fall festival at Luna's preschool. Yesterday, I volunteered for the walkathon at Illy's elementary school. After school, Illy, Luna, and I met up with Miranda (Ronnie's gf), Lori (her mom), and Athena (Miranda's niece, same age as Luna) and went to Vinton to trick or treat downtown (they did their activities from 3 to 5), went by Krispy Kreme for our free donut, and hung out at my brother's house with my niece Haleybear while the littles went trick or treating in that neighborhood.
2. What is your favorite Halloween or dress up party costume you've had? For the majority of the last ten years, I've just worn a grumpy bear shirt that says "I don't do costumes." When the boys were little, I had a witches costume that had a belt with all these ribbons hanging off of it, which was great because I'd have the kids hold the ribbons while we were walking.
3. Which do you like better, apple cider or pumpkin spice flavoring? apple cider, definitely
4. What is your favorite scary movie and why? I don't like gory stuff or a lot of the really scary stuff. I like old Stephen King movies, and things like Monster Squad and "scary" movies from the 80s when I was growing up. Things more along the lines of SyFy than Horror. Ghost Ship comes to mind - I saw it in the theater and there is one part that always makes me jump even if I rewatch that movie now.
5. What traditionally "scary" monster or fear do you think is the most overrated and why? not sure
