Oh god, I think I'm gonna die laughing. My friend Crystal from work just called and left me a voicemail: "Hey Tabby, it's Momma. I know I'm not supposed to call you but listen to this." Then she moves the phone away and there's this strange noise that's a mix between a click and a chirp. "There really is a squirell call! I'll see you on Monday." Dude, she is SO on crack! I love her so much.
Random funny child story from today. My mom was in the kitchen making dinner and Davey goes in there and he pulls out a small saucepan and hands it to her. She was like "what's this for?" and he said "for the corn" like it was a silly question. Only my mom hadn't said anything about making corn and had just been thinking about having some with dinner. So she was like "what, are you psychic?" and davey's like "I think you mean genius." Dude, he's FIVE! He's such a goofball! We spend half our time laughing at him.
I laid around the house and did nothing today. Well, that's not exactly true, b/c I did do some laundry and some writing and I did get to txt-talk with Alli, which was awesome (even though she was shopping and not buying things for me *g*) b/c I don't usually get to talk to her on the weekends. And I got a call from Mike, which I ignored, and a call from a number I didn't recognize so I didn't pick up but it ended up being Matt. Matt is... well, he and I were really good friends in high school. Really close friends. I don't know how he got my number and I'm really not sure I want to call him back.
I know, yall care, right? :P I have comments to reply to and I really need to read my flist, but I'm gonna skip all that and do some writing tonight. But I am on Y!M if anyone wants to say hi.
On to today's valentines:
HAPPY FEBRUARY 10th!!
I Can Love You Like That by John Michael Montgomery
nu_breed: We're recent friends but I'm so glad to have met you. I really hope we can spend some time getting to know one another better (and what better to bond over than the winchesters) because you see be an awesome person. Overlook any of my craziness, okay? *hugs*
nymphadora17: Hi sweetie! I think my favorite thing about you is how dedicated you are to your Cubs. You just sound so happy when you talk about them and it's obvious you love them and that you love working with them. Also, I love that you support Severus Snape and your Luna theory I read in your HPDH meme a short while back. Not that much longer before we find out what JKR thinks happened.
paddies: I was so intimidated by you to begin with because I had this impression that you're this big, popular person in the QaF fandom, and I so love that you were suprised by me feeling that way! You have been so friendly to me and you are such an amazing person. I love reading your LJ. I'm pretty sure I've snagged some icons from you. I love Queer Eyes. I'm so glad to be able to call you a friend.
paw_tracks: Girl, whatever crack you're smoking, you need to share. You are just so vibrant and excited about everything, I love it! I had so much fun chatting with you that one night that krystal pulled me into yall's AIM chat; we really will have to do that again sometime.
pecos: I probably told you before, but I originally friended you for the Luckiest Dog in the World series, which I love more than words! Then I hung around your LJ for a while and was just absolutely taken with how amazing you are. Your life is full of adventures and you share them with us and it's special! I love hearing about your trips and seeing your picspams from them. I love how you are never hesitant about your opinions. Most of all, I love how you've always been so nice and friendly to me. You totally get a gold star.
phaballa: Andrea = drunken LJ phone post from wincon on wendy's LJ. *g* I have that phone post on my memories disk with all my pics from wincon, Miss Crazycakes. You are so cracktastically awesome and I can't wait to see you again. And I promise I haven't forgotten I need to be in love with all things pop-slasherly by the time we do see each other again.
pixel_0: You know, I think you were my first friend in the world of Supernatural? Crescendo of the Moon is still my favorite gen SPN story, which may be partially because it was the first one I read but it's mostly because you are an awesome writer and since I did some beta'ing for you,I know how much thought and effort you put into it. I love everything you write, even though you make me cry sometimes. I loved our discussions on plot and writing and other things related to fanfiction and winchesters. *big hugs*
pixie_squeaks: You are so cute. I miss talking to you. I hope your classes aren't treating you too badly and that RL isn't being too stressful. We really need to catch up. *smooches*
puterpatty: Your job sucks. I hate hearing that you're having a hard time down there. You have been such an amazing friend to me, from the LJ cheat sheet to the icons and layout you made for me to introducing me to Latter Days and reminding me of my love for OZ. I am so thankful to have you in my life. And I would so love to meet up with you if you decide to come this way in April. Oh, and the next time you and al take a road trip, it'd better come through Virginia.
ravenpan: I've only talked to you sporadically since the newest little one was born (which has been so long! I can't believe how much time has passed! *feels horrible*) and I know that it's been a really rough year for you. I hope you and your hubby and the kiddos are doing okay. I can't believe we've been friends for years! Okay, so it's only like 2 years, but still. *g* It seems like forever ago that I started reading Innocence Lost and decided I had to stalk you. *hugs and loves*
Today's drabbley thingy is from Jericho. Dale/Skylar
Skylar knew the other side of the bed was empty before she opened her eyes. A year ago she never would have imagined waking up in a bed with Dale, but the world was a different place now and it was strange waking up without him. They had been "playing house" for months now, much to the dismay of her friends. They had a couple rough spots, mainly revolving around the whole Mitch Cafferty situation, but he made her happy, and it just felt right.
Skylar slipped out of bed and padded down the stairs. She found Dale in the kitchen, a goofy smile on his face that usually meant he was pleased with himself.
"What's got you so happy this early in the morning?"
"I've got a surprise for you." He pulled a bag off the counter and handed it to her. "Happy Valentine's Day."
Skylar peeked into the bag and nearly dropped it when she realized what it was. Yeah, things had definitely changed, but a world where she found love with Dale Turner and thought Diet Coke was the most amazing Valentine's gift ever was just the place she wanted to be.
Recipe of the day:
Fluffy Strawberry Pie
Pastry:
1 c all purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/3 c plus 1 tbsp shortening
2 to 3 tbsp cold water
Filling:
3/4 c boiling water
1 pkg (4 serving size) strawberry gelatin
1 tsp grated lime peel
1/2 c lime juice (4 limes)
1 1/2 c whipping cream
3/4 c powdered sugar
1 pint (2 c) strawberries, slightly crushed
whipped cream & strawberry halves if desired
In medium bowl, mix flour and salt. Cut in shortening, using pastry blender (or pulling 2 table knives through ingredients in opposite directions), until particles are size of small peas. Sprinkle with cold water, 1 tablespoon at a time, tossing with fork until all flour is moistened and pastry almost leaves side of bowl (1 to 2 teaspoons more water can be added if necessary).
Gather pastry into a ball. Shape into flattened round on lightly floured surface. Wrap in plastic wrap; refrigerate about 45 minutes or until dough is firm and cold, yet pliable. This allows the shortening to become slightly firm, which helps make the baked pastry more flaky. If refrigerated longer, let pastry soften slightly before rolling.
Heat oven to 475°F. With floured rolling pin, roll pastry into round 2 inches larger than upside-down 9-inch glass pie plate. Fold pastry into fourths; place in pie plate. Unfold and ease into plate, pressing firmly against bottom and side. Trim overhanging edge of pastry 1 inch from rim of pie plate. Fold and roll pastry under, even with plate; flute as desired. Prick bottom and side of pastry thoroughly with fork. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until light brown; cool on cooling rack.
In large bowl, pour boiling water over gelatin; stir until gelatin is dissolved. Stir in lime peel and lime juice. Refrigerate about 1 hour or until very thick but not set.
Beat gelatin mixture with electric mixer on high speed about 4 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally, until thick and fluffy; set aside. In chilled large bowl, beat whipping cream and powdered sugar on high speed until stiff. Gently stir whipped cream and crushed strawberries into gelatin mixture. Pour into crust. Refrigerate about 3 hours or until set. Garnish with whipped cream and strawberry halves. Store in refrigerator.
