Happy February 11th! If you haven't been keeping up with them, don't forget to check out today's posts at
14valentines!
I know I'm way behind on comments and such, but there is a reason for it, I promise. I'll catch up later today or this evening, k?
Today's song isn't really a love song, but it's a song about love and it makes me happy. X's and O's by David Allen Coe
remusseverus: I really enjoy reading about the real life adventures you have with your kids. They're so much fun, aren't they?
rowanmikaio: HI! I don't think you'll see this because I'm pretty sure you can't access LJ from school, if I remember correctly. I hope school isn't making your life too hard. Although I know you're incredibly intelligent so I wouldn't figure it is. I hope thing are going well for you otherwise and I look forward to actually getting to talk to you on a regular basis again.
roz_morgan: I've had you around for a really long time and I feel like I don't know you well enough at all. Except for that you love kitties and that your LJ dates seem to be set in the future. But from your recent posts, I really want to get to know you better, so you might find me stalking your LJ in the future.
rubytuesday5681:I love how you involve your flist in your real life, even though things don't seem to be going all that hot right now. But I have a feeling things will start looking up for you and I hope it's soon because you're such an awesome person and you really deserve it. If you ever wanna just talk, I'll be there. *hugs*
rutzy: You really haven't been around much lately. I know you've gota real life that keeps you busy, but I still miss you, especially since you were one of my first friends in the HP fandom. You have always been so sweet. *hugs*
sassywitch: I just now realized that you're in Austrailia. I'm so smart sometimes. I'm glad you and your sis found a house. I didn't comment on those posts, but I was keeping an eye on them and keeping my fingers crossed for you. Also, every time I see your name, I think "Damn, she has fic that I need to go read!" For some reason, I think I friended you because of something to do with lost, but then I started reading Western Lovers and bookmarked it to come back to and I never did. Maybe I got distracted by the occasional awesome picspams I see on your LJ?
scots_in_kilts: I don't know where you are and I'd worry if I didn't see your name pop up occasionally on my Y!M list. Well, I still worry. I don't think you'll see this, so I'm gonna send you an email fussing at you for making me worry, k? :P
semaphore27: I'm glad to know that things seem to be going better for you and I was excited to see you coming around more. I love your real life posts, and I of course love your stories. I could read them for hours. Of course, since most of them are huge, it takes hours, but they're very addicting. I hope life keeps looking up for you.
seret: Hi! You don't post much anymore, which makes me sad. I hope that means that you're way busy with awesome stuff in your real life.
How about a return to HP?
Ginny heard the laughter coming from the kitchen before she got to the bottom of the stairs. Everyone was so happy, like everything was normal, but everything was so far from normal. Normal would have meant spending Valentine's Day at Hogwarts, but the situation in the wizarding world had become so perilous towards the end of the fall semester that when the kids went home for Christmas, they were advised not to come back. So Ginny was stuck at home, bored out of her skull and wondering if anyone was ever going to see her as being grown enough to actually help with the Order.
She peeked into the kitchen and saw several pink rabbits jumping around the room. It they weren't rabbits and therefore undeniably cute, she'd say that they seemed to be angry about something. Then she saw the plate of mini heart-shaped cakes on the table and Fred and George doubled over with laughter.
"New invention?" she asked lightly.
"Yeah, but we couldn't get the formula right in time for Valentine's. Oh well, at least we'll be prepared for Easter!"
Recipe for the day:
Cocoa Fudge Cake
Bake a cake from scratch! This is from the Betty Crocker Cook Book for Boys and Girls, so it's simple enough a child can do it. My little sister has made this before and it turned out awesome. Which means you can too!
1 3/4 c sifted flour
1 1/3 c sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
6 tbsp cocoa
1/2 c soft shortening
1 c buttermilk
1 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
Heat oven to 350. Grease 13X9X2 cake pan. Sift together flour, sugar, soda, salt, and cocoa. Add shortening, buttermilk, and vanilla. Beat vigorously for 2 minutes (300 strokes). You can use an electric mixer at medium speed if you scrape the sides of the mixing bowl often. Add eggs; beat 2 more minutes. Scrape batter together and be sure it is all well blended. Pour into prepared pan. Bake 40 to 45 minutes. Cool on rack. Ice with Quick Fudge Icing (recipe below).
Rich Fudge Icing
1 c sugar
1/4 c cocoa
1/4 c butter
1/2 c milk
2 tbsp light corn syrup
1 1/2 c sifted confectioners' sugar
1 tsp vanilla
In saucepan, mix sugar and cocoa. Stir in butter, milk, and corn syrup. Bring to boil. Boil for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Take out spoon and set pan in cold water. When you can hold your hand on the bottom of the pan, the syrup is cool enough. Then stir in confectioners' sugar and vanilla. Stir the icing until thick enough to spread. Add more confectioners' sugar or milk if needed.
