So, I actually really enjoyed the movie! Jensen!
My Bloody Valentine
before we went, I had read
wendy's post about it, and I actually felt better about going to see it. (blood and gore really isn't my thing; I like horror films that are more psychological, y'know?) Then we get to the theater (after a VERY VERY FUCKING COLD wait in line) and the theater was pretty much filled, so we ended up sitting the second row from the back, and there were people in the crowd who literally gasped during the 3D preview for Coraline, and Harley & I were both like, "this is gonna be a fun crowd."
Overall, the 3d experience isn't that much better than the average movie experience, but for me it kinda sucks b/c I have to wear the 3d glasses overtop of my regular glasses and so I have a gap in my periphery that can be kinda creepy.
One thing
wendy said was Tom is very, very different from Dean, and Jensen did an awesome job being someone different. (I never thought "DEAN" while watching.) and I totally totally agree. Jensen and Dean are usually pretty much synonymous in my mind, and even at points that were reminiscient of Supernatural, like at one point when Tom opened the door to the mines, I didn't think "Dean", and I never expected Hero!Dean to save the day. (lol, also, I never thought "hey, call the winchesters!", which is often my comment at horror films. This was more BAU territory, I think.) I really thought he did an excellent job. And he's pretty to look at, even when he is psychotic.
The movie itself was rather laughable and predictable, but in a good way. I'd definitely watch it again. I think that Kerr Smith as Axel and Jaime King as Sarah were both good, but I didn't really think Megan could act.
I loved Irene from a sheer comic point of view. The extremely loud sex, running after the guy naked and with an unloaded gun and throwing it at him, thinking that a metal bed frame is gonna protect her from a psycho killer with a pick axe. Idiot.
Some of the deaths were ridiculous and impossible, blood and gore for the sake of effect that makes me wanna roll my eyes.
I wish there would have been a bit more depth/exploration/explanation with Tom. He spent 7 years in a mental institution; if he was still a danger to himself or others they would have kept him, right? What exactly caused his psychotic break? Just coming back to town? Why were the psychotic episodes so long and so broad? I mean, they were focused on people he knew, but only kinda. The trucker, the guy he killed in the mine -- he had no real connection to them. And Megan, that was more like maliciousness or an attempt to frame Axel, and that involved a level of thinking and organization that I wouldn't think would be associated with a psychotic break. Also, how did he know where Harry Warden was buried? And what happened to the body? And that grave space did not look like it had been recently disturbed, even though it could only have been a couple days since Tom had dug it up and took the mask? I know, I'm overthinking it. sorry.
uh, what else... oh! Harley & Jamie said the town kinda reminded them of Roanoke. It reminds me more of Buchanan or maybe Clifton Forge, and I was actually struck by the similarities. Roanoke and Clifton Forge are both railroad towns, or were at one time, but we're close enough to mining towns that I can relate to that. No psycho killers here recently though.
I actually expected Sarah to say her kid was Tom's, that she had been pregnant when he left, but Noah was too young.
Sarah wrecking Tom's truck made me think of Devour. Yeah, idk either, my trains of thought don't run on straight tracks.
I think that covers everything I wanted to say. Maybe. If I think of more, I'll add it in. Tommorrow we're going to go see Hotel For Dogs, so expect rambling about that.
IN CONCLUSION: JENSEN = <3

Date: 2009-01-17 01:12 pm (UTC)Also? I was amused to see the preview for Friday the 13th. Jensen's movie promoting Jared's!
(And laughed at "I Don't Care" being playing as background music for another preview.)
In conclusion: &Jensen;
ETA: WTF? That icon is NOT my icon. It is not one I have ever had or uploaded. It is not the one that goes with the keyword I chose. !?!?!?!?!?

Date: 2009-01-17 04:33 pm (UTC)We were watching the Friday the 13th movie and I told Jamie "I really, really don't wanna see that. Why does Jared have to be so pretty?" b/c I'm gonna go see it just for the Jared, y'know?
There are icon gremlins on LJ.

Date: 2009-01-17 03:01 pm (UTC)And ditto all that about Tom's backstory. I would have liked to know more!
Apparently the trucker who gets killed is Tom Ford, the script writer. Cool, huh?
I was convinced Axel was the killer. I'm so gullible. But get this...I read the wikipedia page for the original MBV and in that movie? Axel WAS the killer. HA. Vindicated! lol
In conclusion: Better than Devour!

Date: 2009-01-17 04:35 pm (UTC)That is cool that the trucker was the script writer.
Definitely better than Devour! Which Harley has not seen so I have to find my copy of it to watch with her and Jamie, lol.
