Hey, have I complained about the baby shower yet? If so, I'm going to do it again, and if not, here it is.
My brother & his wife are having a baby. He has two kids from his first marriage, but this is Kristina's first biological child. I wanted to throw a baby shower because I knew Kristina's sister wouldn't and because I LOVE baby showers. When I mentioned it, Kristina said that her best friend Stephanie was going to do one and her Nanna was going to do one. Then, a while later, she said Nanna wasn't going to be able to do it (she's been sick and stuff) so it was back to me doing a shower for the family. Started planning a shower and got together with one of my friends to make arrangements for her to design a special cake.
Then Kristina says she wants a family cookout instead of a traditional baby shower, which is not the same thing at all and is so much more expensive. Then she says her Nanna wants to be part of planning it. I was willing to let Nanna just do the whole thing, because I didn't want to plan a cookout. Kristina kept bugging me about calling Nanna to "plan" things, which was hard enough back when I could afford my medication and calling people wasn't as big a deal as it is now, but every time I tried, Nanna was busy. Kristina and Nanna had a specific park they want the baby shower at and a certain few dates to choose from, but neither of them ever attempted to reserve it. Then all the stuff happened with Kristina's mom. I ended up getting my dad to pay for the picnic shelter reservation and sent out invitations at the beginning of May since Kristina made it seem like it was all up to me. She originally estimated about 50 people altogether, but I made 50 invitations and still had to go get more. No one is RSVP'ing. She and her Nanna vetoed any ideas we had of doing something other than grilling out, and Kristina didn't want to make the cookout a covered dish thing (although my aunts and cousins are bringing something anyway because that's how we work), and they went and ordered a cake that Nanna picked out because they didn't think the one I picked out would be enough and didn't know what the design was.
Now they're getting pissy because now that we have a week to go before the shower, Nanna wants us to call her (although the times my mom has tried she's been busy) to work out a time to get together to discuss and plan. Um, the shower is NEXT WEEKEND, we already have it planned, but every time I say anything about what is planned, they change it. And now my brother is in the middle of it and I'm going to tell all of them to go to hell. If Nanna wants to do the shower, she can go for it. I can do other things with my Saturday evening, especially since it's my birthday weekend! ARGH. I forgot that Kristina is the most unappreciative person EVER. I really should have just stuck to focusing my attention on Relay for Life, which is far more rewarding.
