Remember me talking about the super hot temperature? Well, my favorite weather guy predicted that we were gonna get some storms this evening, and the way he described it was like a tornado without the funnel clouds. Very heavy, steady, multidirectional wind along with some thunder and lightning. We were getting reports that the storms were a ways away and that they might even miss us, so Mom took the kids over to the Red Sox stadium to watch fireworks. Only when they got there, the stadium was empty of people even though the parking lot was full. (Turns out the fans had been evacuated, and most of them were taking shelter in the tunnels beneath the stadium) The fire trucks were leaving, so mom called to tell me that they were heading home because there would be no fireworks, and all the power went out there and there was like a huge swirly cloud of dust over the ballfield. As they were coming home, a branch almost landed on mom's car, the wind was blowing her kia all over the road, and they ended up having to take an alternate route because a tree had fallen across the road. They made it home before the wind got really bad though, but not before our power went out. Harley was kinda totally freaking out.

The storm itself - which was all wind and thunder and lightning, no rain - didn't last too long but it did a shitload of damage. There are trees uprooted and branches everywhere and we have cable and power lines down across the road on the end of our street (the only way in and out b/c we live on a cul-de-sac). We got together with our neighbors from across the street and went to check on the elderly neighbors and move the branches out of the road and whatnot. But there are hundreds of thousands of people without power across this part of VA and WVA, so who knows when we'll get our power (and our a/c!) back. Rt & Kris have power b/c Salem has it's own power company and they are quicker and have less people to deal with. That's good since Kris is 38 weeks pregnant. However, the hospital she's supposed to deliver at is running on their emergency backup power, not up to full power, so that's kinda scary.

I checked in with most everyone important and they're okay. Davey was freaking out about whether or not Mike & Fiona are okay, but they don't have power, so the cordless phones won't work, so I have no way to check on them. And Matt isn't txtng me back but I figure he might just be drunk. My daddy is drunk; he said they were sitting on his backporch drinking shine and watching the trees fall on people's houses over the hill. Asshole.

Anyway, we have no power and no a/c. The boys are watching a movie on my laptop, and I have to leave my phone in the car so it'll charge. I'll check in with yall in the morning. G'night!
