Apr. 20th, 2013 10:43 pmAn update in list form AND I'm going to balance out every negative thing with at least one positive thing. Positivity!
- I think I effed up my back. Again. And it took me a couple days to notice because I was so focused on the migraine. UGHHHHHH.
+ We got the carpet pulled from the dining room, living room, and upstairs hallway. It was pretty disgusting, but it has been here since my mom was a teenager, so it's been through dozens of kids and half a dozen various animals as well as years and years of normal wear and tear. The hardwood beneath it is in pretty good shape - it really needs to be sanded but that'll have to wait until we pull the carpet in the bedrooms b/c if I have to rent a sander, I only want to do it once.
- Apparently, because I don't totally approve of the Shannon-and-Scott situation, and because I "hurt their feelings" when I said I wasn't comfortable with Scott coming to Family Game Night, I have been disinvited to Bree's birthday party. WTAF? Bree's been my baby girl since day one. SHE WAITED FOR ME! I was coming home from Texas and got delayed in Charlotte for hours and she waited until I landed in Roanoke to be born! Ugh.
+ Plans for tomorrow - walking with friend!Amy and Zachary (because I need the exercise, even if everything hurts right now), finishing this thing for
apiphile before she figures out trans-Atlantic teleportation and beats me (and not in the fun way), and... that's about it. Making steaks for dinner? Watching The Amazing Race? (Go TeamHockeyBrothers!) Oh, and watching Chopped, because it's an All Star episode and it's the JUDGES who are competing. (I think it's Amanda, Alex, Marc, and Scott, for any of you who watch Chopped.)
+ Um, I started talking about good things and can't remember what else I was going to complain about? \o/?
+ Clean sheets are awesome. So is being able to finally take the winter comforters off the bed.
- I have a spider bite just above my ankle. I know I've complained about it before, either here or on twitter or maybe just to
asimplechord (and
junebug_waltz, maybe?) via email. But it's been there for at least a month and it's not going away. It's a red spot about an inch and a half across. It's not swollen or inflamed, and it doesn't hurt but it does itch a little sometimes. But it just wont. go. away. I'm going to ask Kris to look at it but I may end up having to have it actually checked out. Which sucks, because NO INSURANCE. Argh.
+ My Salem Red Sox have had a pretty shitty start to the season, but they beat the Hillcats tonight 7 to 4, and birthday boy Garin Cecchini (our third baseman) apparently had a good night, so YAY! (I know the season just started, and I know 6 and 8 isn't bad - even if we are at the bottom of the league - and there's a lot of games left to win, but some of the scores in the games we've lost have been RIDICULOUS.)
+ And uh, apparently it's Brent Seabrook's birthday today too? So Happy Birthday, Seabs! (Hockey, you guys, what even?)
+ Also, Shemar Moore. I may have only watched like one episode this season of CM, but I still love me some Morgan. (Did you guys see this article where he said "It's OK for Penelope Garcia to get goofy Kevin as a boyfriend, but I'm not allowed to get a girlfriend, because then I'm cheating on Garcia."? LOVE THEM!)
+
asimplechord is a bad influence. (By which I mean, of course, that she is the BESTEST and I LOVE HER!) She sent me a text one day when I was sitting at baseball practice and was like, "there need to be more coffeeshop AUs." Somehow that became a couple thousand words of great not!fic. I forgot how much I LOVE to write with her.
+ We're having a big potluck picnic thing the afternoon of May 5th, which is a Sunday. If any of you are close enough to come - *cough*
gelsey*cough* - I'd love to have you! Everyone's bringing a dish, we're going to get a baseball game going, it'll be a great time!
- OMG! I remember the other thing that I wanted to say! This is so far in the negative column it deserves like a gazillion dashes. Remember me telling you my cousin Courtney is pregnant with twins? We found out that one of the girls has anencephaly, which is a neural tube defect that affects the formation of baby's brain and the skull bones and results in only minimal development of the baby's brain. There is a high likelihood of Leah being born still born, and if she is a live birth, she'll only live for a few hours or so. I think this is one of those situations where they recommend abortion, but they can't do that here because of Brianna, so Courtney has to carry both babies to term. (Or as close as she can get, I know twins usually come early.) After the initial shock, and after a lot of doctors visits and research and prayer, Courtney and Mikey seem to be handling it as well as they could. Courtney is right now researching information on infant organ donation. I just... you guys, babies aren't supposed to die! I thought the hardest thing I'd ever do was bury my daughter, but last year, with Anthony, being there and not being able to DO anything while he buried Landon? HARDEST THING EVER. And now his sister has to do this? I'm picky about which cousins I'm close to, and Courtney and Anthony are two that I absolutely adore, and I just can't even put my feelings about this into words. SO UPSET.
+ To balance that, I'll say that Brianna appears to be healthy. Brielle (the baby girl my cousin Dana is expecting), Sean (the baby boy my cousin Beth is expecting), Cayden (the baby boy MelodyStar is expecting), and Catelyn (the baby girl my friend Angie is expecting) all seem healthy. One of the girls I used to babysit, Meghan, just had a beautiful baby girl this week (her name is Ray-lynn). Mom's coworker has a grandbaby that was born two weeks ago weighing just under four pounds, and he is thriving. So lots of happy baby news!
Enough list. Bonus links?
Generation Kill Spring Fling: Survival - This fest will run for three weeks and prompts will remain open. Prompt anything: a word, a vid, a screencap, a poem, a love song, a manifesto. This fest is open to all media: fic, vid, art, podfic, and anything else. Mix it up! (It's all good!)
this pic that Johnny Weir's husband tweeted (I'm pretty sure that baby belongs to Tara Modlin?)
FIC: The Upside of Accident by luxover -- Hockey RPF, Carolina Hurricanes, Jeff Skinner/Jordan Staal -- Accidental dating fic
FIC: the gravity i've fallen into by notamagnet -- Hockey RPF/Bandom Crossover, Chicago Blackhawks, Panic! at the Disco -- Patrick Kane/Jonathan Toews, Brendon Urie/Jon Walker -- Kaner quits hockey and opens up a cupcake/coffee shop with Jon Walker, who saves kittens and sings in a rockband. Or something.
FIC: Marry Me a Little by bessyboo & thisissirius -- Hockey RPF, Chicago Blackhawks, Patrick Kane/Jonathan Toews -- When NHL star Patrick Kane's off-ice antics finally get him into trouble for the last time, captain and best friend Jonathan Toews has one final trump card to keep him from being traded: marriage...to each other. But between being the first openly gay hockey players, facing down a lockout, and the fact that Patrick has been in love with Jonny for years, will these two ever be able to work past their miscommunication to realize that their marriage may not be as much of a sham as they think it is? *note, this is a harlequin big bang fic, and it's an epic 154K words and has a soundtrack and graphics and is GREAT. LOVED IT!
FIC: Kissing Booth by crimsonkitty -- Baseball RPF -- platonic kissing between: Tim Lincecum/Buster Posey, Tim Lincecum/Eli Whiteside, Tim Lincecum/Chris Stewart -- Tim gets blasted and decides it's a good idea to start making out with his catchers.
I don't even know either, you guys, I just ended up here somehow. I don't normally read baseball rpf? And I don't follow this team, whatever team it is, so I don't know these guys? But I thought this was cute. I'll go ahead and throw the next one in here too:
FIC: The Game In Front of You by synchronik -- Baseball RPF -- Tim Lincecum/Chris Stewart -- Tim's whole life he's been told he doesn't have what it takes. He's not big enough, he's not strong enough, he's not talented enough. And the only reason he's even breathing this rarified air, having this success, is because he takes whatever weak shit he has and spins it into gold. He plays the game in front of him. And right now, the game is Chris Stewart. AND IT'S COMPANION PIECE -- Journeyman also by synchronik -- One of the players involved in a gay sex scandal is a five-tool player having a breakout year. The other is Chris Stewart.
