I just posted a bunch of links on FB about summer activities (because people always wonder how the kids and I do stuff over the summer when I'm always broke!) and some of these things aren't limited to just my area, so I figured I'd share here too. (These aren't limited to just kids, either! I'd totally go see kid movies for $1 by myself! So whether you have kids or not, you might find something interesting on this list!)

AMF Bowling Lanes Summer Unplugged - register your kids on the website and they'll get two FREE bowling games per day, every day, up until 8pm. Program runs from May 13 until Sept 3. (Here in Roanoke, this is Hilltop Lanes on Williamson, open at 9am daily, 10am on Sunday) There is also a summer pass where you and up to three guests ages 16 and up can bowl all summer long for only $34.95. (Note: shoe rental is NOT included.) Check the website to find the AMF Bowling Center closest to you!

Carmike Cinemas Summer Kid Movie Series - $4 includes admission plus a kids tray with popcorn, drink, and snack. Check the page for a list of movies plus local participating theaters and what day of the week the movies will be shown. (Here in Roanoke, this is at Carmike 10 at Tanglewood on Thursday mornings at 10am starting June 13!)

Regal Cinemas Summer Movie Express - $1 movies on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 10am. (Here in Roanoke, this is Valley View Grande starting June 19, check the webpage for other areas theaters and start dates.) There are two movies show each week, so you can go both days if you want and see something different.

If your kids are older, one thing I can suggest for the summer is signing up with Soldiers' Angels (Official) and joining the Letter Writing Team. You choose a day of the week to receive the name/address of a deployed military member and are simply responsible for sending them a letter. It's so simple but it can mean so much to someone. (There are many ways to participate in SA, but the LWT is good for kids. If you're interested in joining one of the other teams, or in adopting a hero or a veteran, all the info you need is on the SA page.)

Don't forget to check your local libraries to see what events and activities they have going on. Summer reading programs, story time, lego club, pokemon club, board game night, family movie night, teen movies, special programs, teen craft time, lots of good stuff there! We also have a scrabble night, an adult movie night (not THOSE kind of adult movies, obvsly, but this month is Jack Reacher and last month is was Les Mis) a dungeons and dragons club, etc.

Find out when your community event is and go participate. Even if you're not part of a team, there is usually food, raffles, games, things to purchase, all sorts of things. It's a great way to be involved in your community as well as benefit a good cause. If you ARE on a team, let me know and link me to your donation page so I can donate to you!

Obligatory link to my own page: Cousins for a Cure (you can donate to our team, to my fundraising goal, or to one of the boys' fundraising goals, but be sure to let me know if you do so I can send you a thank you!)
