I was waiting on this concert for like two months and I woke up sick this morning. Which so sucks. I was laying with Davey last night and he looked at me and was like "Momma, I'm gonna make you sick, y'know." And true enough, it happened. Actually, both boys have ear infections and I had to take them to Urgent Care this afternoon so now they're on antibiotics. Fun.

Anyway, I have a question for yall. I have NEVER been to a concert where I sat down the whole time. Never. Granted, I've only been to a couple dozen concerts (not counting the local bands we go see at Greystone) but still. I especially don't see how you're supposed to stay sitting when the band is doing get-up-and-dance, sing-with-us kinda songs. So me and Harley and several of the girls that were sitting in the same row as us stood up for most the concert tonight & the guy behind us was a real jerk about it. Honestly, when I go to a concert, I expect to stand for most of it, and if I'm gonna sit down, I expect that the person in front of me will still be standing, which is why I like sitting in the risers on the back of the floor b/c that way I can still see. But my stepdad says that I'm wrong and we were extremely rude, and that if you go to a concert and pay for an actual seat, then you should sit in it and not stand up at all.

So, what is the proper concert etiquette? Or your opinion on it?

As a concert-goer since I was a wee little gal, I usually just go with the flow of what everyone else is doing. At MSG, it's almost an insult to sit for anyone, even if seats are provided.

However, at the Bitter End (the oldest NYC club venue), there are seats which you're supposed to sit in. If I stood up for Sirsy there (even tho their music is the get-up-and-move kind, as you know), I'd be told to sit down.

When I went to see Tori Amos and Sigur Ros, we all sat because the music is appropriate for that. But basically, I think it's just about going with what everyone else is doing, but if you get tired of standing, then you can sit if you want... even if you can't see. At that point, you don't bitch to the people around you who are standing, ya know?

The majority of the people were standing.

And yeah, I think that going along with what everyone else is doing is probably the best course of action. Me personally, I find it hard to sit down when I'm tapping along with the beat or clapping my hands or singing along or whatever. Or swaying along with the slower songs. I just find that hard to do while I'm sitting. Of course, that could just be because I'm strange, though, so we'll let that go. *G*
