What I don't understand is why didn't someone, ie Castiel throw out the idea of the gun possibly not working. That was the first thing out of my kid's mouth as Castiel was stalking Crowley, he asked why they were getting the gun when it only worked on demons and Lucifer was an angel not a demon.
