So, me not working means I keep the baby while Harley works and does what she needs to for school, right? Somehow, that's now evolved to include driving Harley back and forth to work, taking Harley back and forth to Illiana's doctor appointments, being Tim's secretary and taking care of everything he can't take care of during the day (paying bills, going to pick up parts from Advance, etc), sitting with Kristina's Nanna during her treatments at the hospital, bringing my brother and the mechanics lunch, playing drop-in babysitter for anyone who needs it, and generally doing a lot of things I never expected to do, lol. I'm not complaining, and I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but it's weird. It's kinda nice to have someone to do these things, I guess?

Tomorrow is my brother's birthday (which means mine's in two weeks!) and we're having a party for him tomorrow evening. Kristina was supposed to be off work half day, only she's not. So I get to go over there and get everything set up. With the baby. After I make deviled eggs and corn pudding and potato salad and preacher cookies in the morning, because those are my contributions.

Tomorrow is also Ronnie's social studies SOL and I'm totally freaking out about it. I think I'm more anxious about it than he is. He passed his practice SOL last week with an 84% (and he was one of the 4 students in his class to pass, out of 16, which is sad), but I'm still worried about it. I'm especially concerned since all the SOLs are computer based now which means he can't go highlight important words and cross out answers he knows are wrong and stuff. Ugh. Everyone send him good wishes in the morning, please?

Saturday, both boys have competition. Ronnie hasn't tested for his green belt yet, so they'll be in different divisions again. Davey can totally bring home three first place trophies if he doesn't fuck around and actually applies himself, but Ronnie has to focus a little harder and he just missed over a week of practice time because of his injury, so he'll need good thoughts Saturday as well.

If Ronnie passes his SOL and does his best on Saturday, we're gonna go to the drive in on Saturday night to see Fast Five (again, haha) and Limitless.

This afternoon, RT and I went to donate blood. They took for-freaking-ever to process us. We're both good bleeders, so it only took us like 5 minutes to tip the scales for the actually donation process, but we were there for like an hour and a half. But we each got 4 tickets to any home game for the Salem Red Sox (I still say Avalanche half the time) and two tshirts, and we got a huge bag of homemade cookies. Also, the boys were with us at first until Kristina came to rescue them, and Davey was legit disappointed that there were no actual vampires there. I should probably be careful what I tell my kids, huh?

Then we got home and we had a package from [livejournal.com profile] altiloquent and Crystal-who-no-longer-has-an-LJ, which is always funtimes! They are the awesomest, and they're moving half a country closer to me!! YAYES!

We need to get some discussion going. I feel so separated from all of LJ, and thus separated from THE ENTIRE WORLD! TELL ME THINGS!

Tell me your weekend plans.
Tell me something that makes you happy.
Tell me what you'd get me for my birthday if you could.
Tell me what you'd want me to get you for my birthday.
Tell me how much you love Brendon Urie's stupid face, and feel free to use pictures to support your argument. (and feel free to substitute "Brendon Urie" with someone of your choosing, but we all know Brendon is my favorite)
Tell me which season finale had you throwing things at the tv.

Weekend plans: I'm going to a graduation party. And then I'm going to see Fast Five, even if I have to go alone.
Happy thing: I'm warm and dry and there's a cat purring next to me.
For your b-day: Um, what would you like?
Brendon Urie's stupid face: uh, well, I kind of like PJ Ransone's stupid face better. It's so mobile, with the eyebrows that quirk and the mouth that spews ridiculous things or shapes a perfect "oh" or smirks at Askars/Brad.
Season finale: Hawaii 5-0. Seriously writers? Steve and Kono arrested, Chin Ho bailing, Danno back with his pregnant ex and heading back to New Jersey. No. Just no.
Main fandom: Bujold's Vorkosigan universe. Sahiya here on LJ and lightgetsin have written some amazing stuff, both canon and AU. Space opera. Miles is the son of two galactic legends, physically deformed in a world that doesn't tolerate visible differences. Miles + Ray in fic = win. Want. (Sorry, slightly more than 42)
Picnic: coleslaw (secret recipe)
Song on repeat: Whatsername (live version from the last AI show)
Recent thing I'm proud of: begun looking for a new job, because it's time.

There a million graduation parties here last weekend because of Virginia Tech and Roanoke College and VWCC all graduating, and on top of that 4 of our local high schools had prom on Saturday. Talk about a mess. But Fast Five, OMG. I would totally drive up there to see it with you if I could! I am ridiculously in love with these movies. I've always loved cars. We used to watch the guys race when we were in high school (but more like, two lane road, only straight stretch for miles, lol, or dirt tracks) and cars, especially classic American muscle cars? Oh. Em. Gee. But add yummyness like Paul Walker to the mix? And some explosions and fighting and Vin Diesel and I'm all about it, haha.

Happy thing: I'm warm and dry and there's a cat purring next to me. That is an awesome happy thing!!

I'm bad at asking for things, lol, that's why I asked what you would get me! *is difficult*

Oh, I totally love PJ's stupid face, don't think otherwise! Brendon is my one true favorite, doesn't mean I don't have flings one the side! PJ is ridiculous and I ♥ him a whole whole lot. Even if he posts pics on his tumblr of putting his cat in an oven.

I don't watch Hawaii 5-0 even though most of my flist does. It comes on at the same time as something else, I think? Maybe Castle? And I live in the dark ages of no DVR. But from that description, I could see where it could be a problematic finale.

Bujold's Vorkosigan universe. I am not familiar with anything you've said here, lol. Is this based on a book/book series?

coleslaw (secret recipe) does it have sugar in it?

Song on repeat: Whatsername (live version from the last AI show) Ugh. I am simultaneously jealous of everyone who saw that show and super excited for all of you!!! How awesome!

Recent thing I'm proud of: begun looking for a new job, because it's time. that can be pretty scary and a big step, so YAY YOU!! <3

I end up watching Castle online later. I actually like Castle better, but ABC is more user friendly about having recent episodes available online while CBS is hit or miss.

I can neither confirm nor deny the existence of sugar as a secret ingredient. :P

Bujold writes space operas (Vorkosigan) and fantasy (pretty much all her other stuff). Miles is the main protag in her space opera. He's somewhat Ray-like, with the debate skills, but also a little crazy due to immense family expectations and social pressure. He runs away as a teenager and somehow manages to hijack (singlehandedly) a space mercenary fleet. Among other adventures.

CBS sucks about having its shows available online, lol, even on itunes. I remember when I was taking night classes and wanting to watch Jericho and Criminal Minds and had such a hard time keeping up.

Interesting. There seem to be a several books in the Vorkosigan series? If I were to check for one/some of them at my used book store, which would/should I start with?

There are several books, starting with the two that cover Miles' parents and his birth (Shards of Honor, Barrayar). Then the series starts up again with Warrior's Apprentice and Vor Games. Then Cetaganda, Brothers in Arms, Mirror Dance, Memory, Komarr, A Civil Campaign, Diplomatic Immunity, and Cryoburn. There are several novellas mixed in, too: Mountains of Mourning, Labyrinth, Borders of Infinity, and Winterfair Gifts. Different books and novellas have been bundled together for themed anthologies, too, so the titles can get confusing. My favorites are Memory and A Civil Campaign plus Borders of Infinity.

Do you read ebooks? Warrior's Apprentice and Mountains of Mourning are available for free, without DRM, from Baen Books, and they are probably the best place to start. Click here.

Weekend plans: MCR Friday night. Not sure about the rest, other than maybe getting a new phone, b/c mine is on its last legs.
Happy thing: I believe I sent you a pic of that this afternoon. And [livejournal.com profile] shutyourface posted the other one that's making me happy.
B-day gift: An un-concussed brain? A ticket to Dallas. (that's for both of us)
Bden's stupid face: I'm sure this will come as no surprise to you, but I love it THIS MUCH.
Season finale: Um... none, yet. There was a bunch of eye-rolling at this week's eps of House, CM, and CM:SB (dude that ep was TERRIBLY written) but I'm withholding judgment for one more week.
Fandom: I believe I put the DVDs in last time you visited, and that's worth waaaaaay more than 42 words. :D GK FTW!
Picnic: Probably the same coleslaw J would bring. Or deviled eggs. Or homebrew.
Song: Satellite, Rise Against
Proud of: Uh... work? I got a pretty cool result.

Lol, so I totally fell asleep contemplating your Brendon pics. Scruffy!Brendon = YUM! Totally belongs in the Brendon/Tom world, btw. Why does he look so much older there? Also, that first pic, of the m&g, makes me think of us and the m&g on the BND tour, and OMG Pete Wentz touched me! :P

Have fun at MCR. We didn't do an MCR concert, even though one of the teenager wanted to. I'm just not feeling them?

Those pics are definitely, definitely happy-making! I 100% approve!

I don't watch House, and I think ALL of CM:SB is horribly written, so. CM, I thought the finale was kinda anticlimactic after everything we've been through this season and after the way they built it up. Also, they've always ended the season with something major, this doesn't even come close. Fail, CM.

GK is pretty fucking ninja! ;)

You'll have to make this coleslaw for me then, just so I can say I've tried the secret recipe. :)

Yay for science and cool results!

(What is an SOL? It's a...test? Like the new MSP, or WASL or HSP? Something that ascertains that kids are up to their state's standards?)

This weekend I am going to go visit my mom. I will probably cut her ferns back because although I have allergies, hers are worse. ^_^ I'll take drugs b-4 I go. ^_^

It makes me incredibly happy to meet with my classmates (I'm at the student teaching aspect of grad program...so I never get to see my classmates anymore. So I try to throw the occasional get together for us ^_^)

CASTLE's season finale drove me crazy!

On our picnic, I will bring my fabulouso pesto salad! (Um, it's a salad, and then rice noodles with pesto mixed in XD

And today in my car, I listened to 'La Vie Boheme'...from Rent... about 6 times in a row! ^_^

SOLs = Standards of Learning. Personally I think they're the worst things to ever happen to our schools, lol, because they came along right as I was getting out of high school and they changed the way our teachers had to teach because they have to teach to the test instead of teaching in applicable life skills, y'know? And if you don't pass the SOL, you don't pass whatever grade you're in. The percentage of passing grades also determines how much funding the schools get or something. But I don't like them, and neither do the teachers. Or the kids, obviously, but what kids like tests?

Yay for visiting your mom! And be sure to take your meds first! We have a huge bunch of poison ivy growing on the side of our yard and even though I can only work in short bits b/c of my headaches, I've been the one to have to weedeat most of it because I'm the only one not allergic to it. It's not fun, lol.

How do you like the student teaching? How much longer do you have before you're done with grad school? That's cool that you take initiative and organize get togethers. Those types of things are important but not everyone realizes it!

Ugh, Castle! Stupid show! I was yelling at the screen. Esp when Castle was holding Beckett back when Montgomery got shot. Ryan and Esposito were kinda the best part, lol. Someone tweeted at Jon Huertas that Esposito needs to go after the guy who shot Beckett at the funeral and Lainey will help him get rid of the bodies. I would totally be okay with that! I don't see how they can have a show without Beckett, even if the show is about Castle, so she can't die, right?

Oh, yum. :)

Ha, that song is totally happy making! I love it. Plus, it's one you can't help but sing along with. :)

Heh. I think I started the "pesto salad" thing when I wanted to eat pesto and salad but didn't have 2 separate bowls to keep everything in. :DDD But you wouldn't believe what the balsalmic vinagrete does to the pesto! The flavors from the dressing let me cut so much salt out that I'd normally put in the pasta, so it's lower total sodium too (^_^ for all health nuts out there).

Student teaching has been great...because of the KIDS. I still so happy that I wake up at a crazy early hour...and still really want to go to school because I want to see my kids. ^_^_^_^ 6-8th grade first year Spanish. ^_^ I'll be taking a summer class, and doing more internship stuff in the fall and then I'LL BE DONE. I am a liiiiiiittle sick of jumping through the university's hoops :P But they totally do not teach you everything you need to know in the Masters' program! Like how to grade 150+ papers a day, or how to multitask starting the class period AND answering the questions of kids whining to you AND standing in the hallway during passing period AND answering parent emails. XP Blech. Ded.

I am hoping if I keep practicing 'La Vie' I will be able to sing along on the fast parts- "So that's 3 miso soup, 2 seaweed salad, 3 tofu dinner and 1 pasta with meatless balls." (Or something like that.)

Lower sodium is totally a good thing, even if you're not a health nut! And accidental recipes are the best kind!

That's awesome that you love what you do because of the kids! And you're so close to being finished! Multitasking is a difficult thing to teach; time management is a skill you either learn early on in life or you do without, I think. I admire the heck out of teachers, because there is so much more to their jobs than most people realize. But I'm sure it can be quite rewarding.

Haha. Good luck with that! :)

What is Metroplex?

Is Zack back home for the summer? Isn't he supposed to be away at school or something? What movie are yall gonna go see if you do go to the movies?

I bet you have some excellent instrumental music. I may ask to steal some of it; I bet that'd help with my insomnia. ;)

You do not suck in any way, and I love you, and I'm sure you've done SOMETHING to be proud of.

Please do catch me up sometime. Feel free to text or email or IM any time. :D

[livejournal.com profile] the_metroplex is an original fiction role play game. <3 All my "kids" playing there are so awesome.

Yeah, he's home for now. School ended for him a couple of weeks (has it been that long?) ago, but he'll be going up to VA (somewhere around Lebanon, just over the border, I believe) for his summer internship here in a few weeks. I'm not sure what movie we'll go see--I actually have no real idea of what's out right now.

I do have a LOT of excellent instrumental stuff. I can put a bunch on a memory stick, if you want, and send it to you, so long as I get the thumb drive back after. I have soundtracks and all this other stuff... I often listen to Yiruma or Palestrina or the monks of this one monastery doing Gregorian chant to fall asleep to.

Is not killing my coworkers last night count as something to be proud of? Because if so, I should be very proud of myself .....

I will email you sometime this weekend, maybe tomorrow after things calm down. (today is karate competition then movies, and tomorrow morning is Youth Sunday at church and I think dinner with my dad) Everything is a mess right now.

Lebanon's only about 3 hours from me. How is he doing a summer internship already? He's not old enough for that, is he? Didn't he just start college? :P

FAST FIVE IS OUT AND IT IS AWESOME! ahem. I may have a thing for fast cars and hot guys. Thor is also out. The new Pirates of the Caribbean movie started this week. Rio is super adorable.

You should do that! That'll make me have to send you something back! I won't have an excuse not to send you this Jasmine Twilight candle that I came across and had to buy, lol.

That's totally something to be proud of - I've counted that before!

I've seen Thor and Rio, both of which were great. I had nearly forgotten that PotC was coming out this week--maybe I'll get to go see that.

:D Awesomeness. I'll dig up my thumb drive and send you a list of some of the stuff I have soon, so you can pick and choose some of what you want.

Tell me your weekend plans. Off to Vancouver on Sunday and back on Tuesday. Staying at my aunt's, as always, and visiting friends =)

Tell me something that makes you happy. Imminent trip =D Shopping!

Tell me what you'd get me for my birthday if you could.
Umm, weekly ready-made delicious meals delivered to your doorstep! With a seasonal flower arrangement!

Tell me what you'd want me to get you for my birthday.
Uhh...babysitting coupons? lol unimaginative
A happymaking songmix because I only hear new songs from fanvids and downloading random music from LJ peeps =P

Tell me which season finale had you throwing things at the tv.

I usually avoid watching season finales until I absolutely have to... (Catch up before the new season)

Tell me in 42 words or less why I should give your current main-fandom a chance (even if it's a fandom I'm already in).

Merlin's supposed to be my main fandom, but what about Hetalia?

America is personified as Alfred F. Jones, this 19 y.o. hamburger-loving-soda-guzzling guy (underage in Japan because 20 y.o. = adult. Not underage sexual relations-wise; you can buy pr0n at 18.) His hair wisp = Nantucket and his glasses = Texas. Fanon-wise, his *bleep* = Florida >=D

<-- I arbitrarily decided that "=" and emoticons don't count into the 42 words.

Tell me, if we were going on a picnic, what would you bring?

Depends on what you're bringing, but probably sushi/rice balls. And summer fruits/berries =D =D =D

Tell me what song you've got on repeat these days?

Iroha Uta (skip to 0:50. The first 50 s is just beeping noises =O)
Migikata no chou (Butterfly on your right shoulder) by Len Kagamine. Who's a vocaloid, which is a computer singing software. The voice bank is from human voice though.

Am a bit (a bit?) Japanese obsessed lately.

Tell me something you've done recently that you're proud of?

Personally: Am taking intensive third year Japanese this summer, yay =D So I've been reviewing my first year textbook (and second year after this) because I haven't taken Japanese for five years. Am planning to try for a second child soon so dunno when I can take anymore classes in the future.

River: What I'm still most proud of about him is his empathy/sympathy =) Because I was a socially awkward child, in the keep-to-myself-not-interested-in-the-world-outside-books kinda way. But he's just so attentive and kind and affectionate <3
He def. got his perfectionist thing from me though, haha.

Visiting is always fun! Shopping, not so much for me, but it seems to be happy-making for most normal other people! :)

That'd be a pretty sweet gift! I approve!

Haha, if I was closer, I'd totally steal River for a bit! I'm sure my boys would love to have him around, especially Ronnie. He loves little ones. I've been meaning to upload a couple music mixes anyway; I'll do that at the beginning of the week!

I kinda miss the days when I didn't have TV and would only watch things on the internet - I would watch multiple seasons so I could go straight from one season finale to the new season. It worked out well especially for cliffhangers. Seems like most shows I watch didn't have major cliffhangers this season, though. They had a potential cliffhanger in the episode prior to the finale but not in the finale. Weird.

Y'know, I have never had sushi. I keep saying I'm gonna go out for sushi with [livejournal.com profile] asimplechord when I visit her, but we always end up going for something else. I'm kinda iffy about going myself? Davey is insistent that he wants to try sushi, though, so I gotta do something. I totally love fruits and berries though! I'm so tempted to hit the strawberry farm sometime this week, yum! And I cannot wait until blackberries come in!

Yay for taking classes, and for trying for another child! Yay babies!!

River is awesome, and you are doing such an excellent job with him! I love hearing about him, on your LJ and when you text me. I cannot believe he's getting so big!!! And he's got another birthday right around the corner!

Hee, I rarely shop (as compared to the average adult female), but I have these annual pilgrimages to Vancouver and Portland. Vancouver: Japanese dollar store, Japanese tableware/pottery store, kids village, Bebe, all-you-can-eat sushi. Portland: the largest secondhand bookstore in the world <333

Bought matching sushi serving plates, rice bowls and chopstick rests this time around =D

Kids liking younger kids/babies are just <3

Boo on the cliffies.

Totally makes sense to go with someone who's familiar with the food. So you'll know what's raw/cooked, what's sweet/salty/spicy, what condiments to use, etc. =)

Pretty safe bets for kids are California rolls and tamago sushi (sweet egg). If the restaurant is owned by a HongKong or Korean person, the tamago sushi would be salty instead of sweet =P
Philadelphia rolls = cooked salmon + cream cheese. Tempura (deep-fried flour-coated) yam and carrots are good (but then again, I like vegetables).

River LOVES unagi (BBQ river eel) probably because of the sweet sauce. They're fatty and melt-in-your-mouth. They sometimes have teeny tiny fishbones but they're edible and don't poke your mouth.
River also loves edamame (soybean)--mostly popping them out of the pods, lol. He used to eat minced raw tuna just fine at 1 y.o., but when he gets older I guess he dislikes the texture/flavor.

Made strawberry jam several weeks ago. Mmmmmmm =D
I'm not motivated enough to go to a berry farm (mostly the long car ride). Maybe next year...

I'm gonna start potty-training him for srs* starting June 6th =| Wish me luck.
* Stop making diapers an option except when sleeping.

Hopefully he doesn't have traumatizing accident(s) during his birthday parties =P

Which reminds me, I should write and send out the evites now.

Also, *hugs you real tight*

For your birthday: Some sort of cloning device that would make it possible for you to be in all of these places at once; that way, at least one of you would be able to relax on the couch and read fanfic for a change. xD <3
Happy things: Good music and good friends.
Main Fandom: Don't laugh, but I'm loving The Vampire Diaries right now. The characters are brilliantly done and there's so much tension to work with. Highly recommend it!

Praying for Ronnie on both the test and competition front. :)

That shall be an awesome weekend, and I hope your week passes quickly for you! :)

TVD the show or the books? I thought about watching the shows just because Ian Somerhalder is yummy, lol, but I haven't yet. But my sister was just reading a set of stories by the same author and the books were kinda ridiculous. The Forbidden Game? idk.

Thank you!

Haha I haven't even read the books /bad fan-- but I absolutely love the TV show. Apparently they changed A LOT of things, so if you didn't like those, I wouldn't be too worried about it. They really did a brilliant job and it definitely lives up to its hype.

Also, yes, Ian is very yummy, and there are plenty of other hot guys from where he came from! XD

Oh, I haven't read the books or watched the series, I was just curious, lol. I know a lot of times there's quite a bit of distinction between the two! I'll probably wait for it to come to Netflix Instant, lol. :)
