Yall know I can't stand my neighbor's kid, right? He's a troublemaker, he's not a nice person (he likes to claim he's the boys' friend and then call them names and try to play them against one another), he's got irresponsible parents (okay, yes, I let my kids work the grill and shoot off the bb guns and whatnot, but only when they're supervised - he's Ronnie's age and is outside at all hours of the night by himself setting off fireworks or shooting his little bb pistol at his cats), and this past year he was pulled out of school to be homeschooled. Idk how homeschool works, but I do know that he sleeps most of the day - during the school year last year he would just be getting up when the boys would get home from school in the afternoon - and then is on the computer way late at night (b/c I get on the boys' facebooks to play farmville, lol). But anyway, I don't like him. But he just posted something on fb, and I swear, he's TWELVE, shouldn't he know how to spell and use punctuation and whatnot?

I love sum one names aren’t important but if you know how it is do not say the name in the comments but the girl I love dues not like me but I love her me I don’t love pizza I like pizza love is not sum thing I yews for jest anything well comment if you fell the same way about sum one you love

Really? I mean, I'm biased, because my ten-year-old makes up stories and types them up with proper spelling and punctuation, and both my boys get fussed at by me or one of the other adults (usually Harley) if they post something that's netspeak/misspelled/poor-grammarish/whatever, but still. Shouldn't a twelve-year-old have better language skills than that? (I feel like a mean bitch for being bothered by it, but I am.)

My seven-year-old can spell better than that. My nine-year-old might spell some of those words wrong, but she knows 'something', and her punctuation is better.

Well, your kids are smart kids. I am not surprised.

Yeah, me too. *sigh* And he is an awful kid; I think that's why it bothers me, lol.

...in my experience that's actually pretty GOOD spelling. The kids I work with see spelling/grammar/punctuation as completely optional and are confused when I insist they have to use it in school.

Yeah, I figured I was just being spoiled and whiny. Not all kids are the same, I guess. I'm just used to kids who are expected to know spelling/grammar/punctuation rules, maybe. (And I know plenty of adults that make status updates very similar to this; I think it's partly that I just don't like this kid to begin with and partly that it irritates me that his mom brags about how "smart" her kids are and then he shows it through this.) (I feel even more ridiculously entitled and mean in this comment. /fail)

Nah, I mean, I expect it to be better always, too. It SHOULD be better!

There is no way I could ever do what you do. I would be so frustrated. I get frustrated enough with my own two kids! Teachers don't get the respect/recognition/admiration they deserve! (and yes, it totally should be better, and I was just reading an article about how kids need to have the same resources if they are being held to the same standards, and I hate that schools and education don't get the funding that they need - I complain about having to come up with tuition for the boys to stay in their old school, but I know that it's well worth it b/c that school district is so much better than the one where we live and I'm lucky the kids still get to go there b/c several of their friends were denied admission as tuition students for the upcoming year, and I had a point when I started this comment but I think it got lost along the way.)

tl;dr - Yes, it SHOULD be better, and I think you're amazing. <3

:( I wish it were unusual. Some of the students we've had come through for tutuorials seriously concern me. AND THEY HAVE BACHELORS DEGREES.

Totally unrelated: Tabby, I have all this backstory for always-a-girl!Jess Skinner in my head that feels like it wants to be written. Whyyyyy isn't the GK Casablanca AU the fic that feels this way?

The fangirl commune is going to have an entrance exam. :(

You need a GK rewatch, to fall for the characters again. Too much hockey and hockey news in your life, that's what the problem is! :P

I keep meaning to re-watch GK when I put my bike on the indoor trainer instead of biking outside in the mosquito fest that is Houston this summer. But first there were Olympics soccer matches on TV to watch, and then I found FSN was re-airing college hockey games, and I got distracted. >.> As you do.

It drives me insane when people uses text speak. I don't mind the LOL, FYI, TBH but using U instead of YOU and 8 instead of ATE is annoying and lazy. R is pretty good about asking me how things are spelled but he still uses chat speak a lot when he's texting.

*points at icon* People who continually use chat speak make me think of this.

The 8 thing (esp when it's like L8R or something) drives me nuts too. Also, b4 instead of before. Lazy people, I swear. (Also, the parents' response to Liam's post? "So proud of you son your to sweet")
