Fanwork tropes/clichés I enjoy are: depends on my mood? Lol. Amnesia, kid!fic, time travel, fix-it, prostitution. Is snark a trope? Because snark and banter is guaranteed to get me no matter what the story.

Challenge #15

In your own space, Talk about Your Snowflake Experience. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

This was my first year participating in Snowflake, and I'm glad I stumbled upon it! I've made some new friends and it helped renew my love for fandom in general. I posted something I wrote for the first time in ages. And it's helped me get into the groove of reading/posting on DW again, so hopefully I can keep it up.

Challenge #11

In your own space, create a fanwork. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

How about the start of some Old Guard that I'm not sure if I'm going to write or not?

One hundred years is a long time, depending on one's perspective, so Booker feels he can spend the first year or two wallowing in guilt and alcohol. )

Challenge #13

In your own space, tell us about 3 fandom resources you use or enjoy. (One or two is fine, especially if you're in a smaller fandom!) Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Once upon a time, I had an awesome Author & Beta Resource Guide. A bunch of the links are no longer good, but I'm totally going to update it with links I snag from everyone's posts for this challenge!

Here are a couple that I use:

One Look because I have a hard time with words sometimes, and it's also great for finding synonyms, etc.

Written? Kitten! - not actually a resource, but I find it helpful when I'm trying to motivate myself to put words to page

I thought I had one more in mind, but can't recall it at the moment. I did use the Harry Potter Lexicon a lot when I was writing HP fic on the regular.

Challenge #10

In your own space, write a love letter to Fandom in general, to a particular fandom, to a trope, a relationship, a character, creator, episode, or it could be your fandom friends. Share your love and squee as loud as you want to. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I've been in so many different "fandoms" over the last 20 years, but the collective fandom - knowing there are other people who are excited about something - is such an important place to me. I have learned so much about myself as I've navigated through fandoms. I've discovered new things to enjoy and tried things I never would have tried. The best part of fandom is, of course, the friends. I don't know who is on DW these days, so I can't tag them like I would on LJ. There are so many people I have connected with, but the Rocketships, my other Reno girls (Wendy, De, and Andrea), my Texas girls (Heather, Stevie, Jamie, Shonna, Lesa, Eryn), Leah, Rachel, and a bunch of others in various places across the US/Canada and across the globe - I am looking foward to being able to travel again because I miss your faces! Thank you for being here and supporting me in fandom and in real life, through cons and concerts and computers. I love you all so much!

Challenge #6

In your own space, rec at least three fanworks that you didn’t create. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

So, I'm totally cheating for this one. Last week, I sent my sister a list of some of the best things of fandom (most of which don't require knowledge of that particular fandom to be enjoyed!) and even though most of them are pretty popular anyway, I'm just going to share the list here.

under a cut because it's kinda long )

Challenge #4

In your own space, create some goals.

1. To finish at least a couple of the WIPs that have been sitting here for ages.

2. Read 104 books. (last year's goal was 52; with quarantine I managed 85. Planning on topping that this year, if only to beat my sister.)

3. Participate more online/on dreamwidth. Make some new friends!

Challenge #3: Guess Who's Coming to Dinner
In your own space, tell us who, from one of your fandoms, would you most want to have dinner with (or tea, or a random afternoon visit), And why? This could be a creator, an actor, a costumer, a set designer, a director, a character, a composer, anybody! What would you talk about? What are you dying to know?

First off, I wouldn't want to have lunch/tea/anything with anyone because my social anxiety says no! People stress me out. But second, I had to think on this, because while I love a lot of people, characters, creators, etc, I mostly just want to admire them from afar and/or think they're hot? I do think it'd be cool to hang with Alex Guarnaschelli or Aarti Sequeira (fandom = anything you're a fan of, right? Food Network is my jam.), and there were plenty of times I wanted to mother/big sister characters (SPN S1 Sam? Totally wanted to sit him down and feed him pbjs and give him a hair cut.) but I decided to go with either Jed Bartlet or Bilbo Baggins.

Jed Bartlet would give some good advice in between dropping random facts and telling some interesting stories.

Bilbo - conditions to this one are that we visit at the Burrow sometime in between the adventures of The Hobbit and LotR - would tell some great stories and serve some great food. (I wanna be a hobbit and live in the Shire and run around barefoot and live to garden, eat, and hang out with friends. And the way my life has been the last several years, I'd like to have no adventures or anything unexpected.)
